Be careful what you wish for....
I'm kidding of course.
Jan(devil) and I have been members on TF for a while. We met here, back in August 2006. We've been together about 23 months, since late December 2006. She is a very private person, and she is not going to like this, but since in part this is what TF is all about I thought it would be appropriate to tell you what happened today, her date for the interview for her fiancee visa:
Until today I did feel confident her visa would be approved as a matter of course, notwithstanding the fact it was taking a really long time. But... this morning in California... I woke up really early, and fiddled around the house, a bit nervous. I was working since Saturday on refinishing a large Thai teak table, so around 6:30am I did another coat of teak oil (yesterday I had sanded and sanded the damn table with finer and finer grit paper for maybe 7 hours, ouch....). Over MSN I put Jandevil to bed early Sunday night Bangkok time as she wanted to wake up super early at 4am Bangkok time Monday. Around 11:30am Sunday Los Angeles time (2:30am Bangkok time Monday), after watching some English Premier League stuff, I then went for a long bike ride to distract me from what would happen later today in Bangkok (Jan was to go to the Bangkok embassy of the USA at 8am Monday for her interview). From the bike path at mile 20, I woke up Jan at 4am Bangkok time to make sure she would get to her 8am interview. Well, I am NOT a supersititious person, but I have to tell you that later during that bike ride I saw in succession.... at mile 24, a dead cat ..... at mile 29, a 30" tall and utterly FAT VULTURE, right in my bike lane (!), eating a piece of unrecognizable carrion (seeing a vulture in Los Angeles is extremely unusual, in fact this is the first time I ever saw a vulture in the County of Los Angeles) .... and, the piece of resistance, at mile 46, a really small 10 inch long baby puppy, very very cute, but sadly very very dead, underneath a freeway overpass. Now, I had another 6 miles to think about what all this meant. Hmmmm. I concluded SOMEBODY was tryng to send me a message about our visa interview, and the message was not exactly positive ...
I got home, took a really long, totally environmentally incorrect, shower, and my friend and I went to a restaurant where we were going to wait for Jandevil's phone call following her visa interview. I told my friend about the three omens today. We decided to do a complete Mayan Apocalytpo (both of us are Mexicans) and get completely smashed ahead of the news. So in succession we had the house bitter ale, a Tanqueray and tonic, a Duvel, a Tres Generaciones straight up, another for good measure, and then ... Jandevil called.... "Honey, it was a very short interview. I got the visa....."
