Rebel Without A Cause - Rare Brando - Screen Test

Funny the other day I was watching Rebel Without A Cause
starring: James Dean, Natalie Wood and Dennis Hopper.. Oh yeah I forgot to also mention the dude that played Thurston Howell the III and Mr. Magoo. Jim Backus. If you haven't seen the classic. Rebel is well worth sitting through and watching.

The other day on Youtube, I stumbled on this old Brando screen test.

Watching the screen test, it gave me food for thought. IMHO Brando could have easily been one of the gang members opposite Dennis Hopper. It made me wonder and imagine what if Brando was in the movie or even chosen to play the leading role. What would the movie have been like? I loved the way Dean played his character with the innocent kid like confused persona. He nailed it. Nothing could beat this.

But when I saw Brando's screen test it kinda made me wonder. I am sure Dean had a directors direction on his character. However Brando's screen test was very convincing and without any help of a director.

O.K. Just to be fair here's the
Natalie Wood and James Dean Screentest... WTF? I thought this was a clip from the movie but believe it or not it's a screen test.

So my question to TFer's is... Of course considering that you have seen this old classic.

What do you think the movie would have been like if Brando was in the movie or even the star?

O.K. im listening - Let me hear it?

I don't think Brando would have been better than Dean in the lead role tbh. Brando was already an established actor by the time Rebel was made and I think the role in Rebel in some ways called for an actor whose screen presence was not as established as Brando's was. Had Brando accepted the role, I think Rebel would still have been a good film but not the classic it is.

Oh btw; that scree test comes from the extras disc of the 2006 re-release of Streetcar named Desire (possibly Brando's best role)

    Wow, even the Godfather?

I agree his performance in Street car was awesome.

I really enjoyed Brando's interesting performance in an old film named Sayonara
