Well it's been a long time since I posted on good ole tf. I'm keeping busy in NYC and having fun. However one reason I haven't been on as much is the formt change in tf and it's associated metadata (web info used by search engines and other things I'm guessing of course). I guess this has changed because often TF is now blocked as a dating site not even a social networking site! In some contracts I work in senstive areas where no outside laptops can be used and web access is restricted HEAVILY but tf was my lone escape often from the only other available link to the outside of news during down times. Even online training sites are often blocked because of the mutlimedia components, but there was also TF. I'm sad about the changes and wish I could get to tf more often especially when I'm bored silly and could use something funny to read. Oh well maybe it's just firewall rules getting more specific and tighetning up restrictions but I'm still sad.

Interesting...I know a lot of companies just look at browsing history and will block individual sites if they see it as something that will take away from workers' productivity. I highly doubt that the metadata was the cause of them taking TF away from you.

I've had TF blocked from me before, but I always found a way around it *evil grin*

Yeah, I doubt it has anything to do with the metadata as it used to be more spammy and dating site oriented before the changes. :-) Seriously, it's better now that it was before.

I think a lot of it has to do with the firewalls becoming more intelligent. The more deployments they have the more information they can analyze. Maybe if one person was using TF a few years ago it slipped under the radar but as more locations or more businesses begin using the same firewall it's no longer one person. It might be ten or a hundred or whatever. Then it gets noticed and someone checks out the site and deems it a dating site and adds it to a banned list.

Many companies run their firewalls on autopilot. They sign up for some service that promises to block all time wasters or sites deemed inappropriate for the workplace and they just accept whatever the firewall service tells it to block.
