The withering away of the State is inevitable in the context of globalization.
Anybody want to offer their tupence worth?

well it is much more interesting, as topics go, than your 'exposes' but....
it begs the question....
why should i care? what investment do i, as an individual, have in "the state"
i think the curious disease of nationalism that afflicted the 19th and 20th centuries may fizz, but what globalism really is, as a replacement, remains to be seen...
one thing i'd guarantee--the rich will get much, much richer, often at the expense of the non-rich, but this will happen regardless of whether "the state" or "globalism" triumph.

We should all care! These things effect our world in many ways.

possibly you could make a case for that, if you define what your'e talking about a little more specifically.Originally Posted by xnine100
like i said i think nationalism is a disease, so if the disintegration of the state were the only consequence i think i would be all for globalism.
however, in order to discuss the merits i'd need some idea of what, specifically, you mean by "globalism". the word has, in its short life, been equivocated to death. some versions i'm against steadfastly and others i embrace with open arms and would even bear globalism's love child if defined properly (mercifully for the world i dont have the plumbing to bear anyone's love child).

Much better !!! A bit deep and wide ranging but shows at least some thought.
Its like unions. First they are needed ,then too powerful. It goes back and forth. What ever you want to call it the world is becoming one BIG corporation and we the people just workers. GREED rules us now

I was speaking about globalization and the idea that it will eventually lead to the end of the nation state [never mentioned nationalism BTW]
The political economic fallout interwined with security arrangements that also dictate the climate for international relations.
Clealry in the case of the environment the state alone is not equiped to deal with many of the issues raised . Therefore cooperation between states is needed. On the positive front the recent summit in Montreal at least showd some benefit of globalization as to can be said of the WTO agreements where the developing nations of China, India, Brazil et all were able to greatly influence the debate and agenda?
However my question deals particualrly with the aspects of globalization in how far it may lead to the erosion of soverignty and integrity of the nation state. It begs the question what will replace it?

I just answered your question but you failed to understand. :POriginally Posted by xnine100
Greed controls the Corporatoins and they control the Governments anymore. Economic control of resourses is were we have come too. Colonialization is still alive but now it is using countries as factories with cheap labor which is what was done in the past just now its on a bigger scale and we call it modern and globalized. Civilized animals , beasts with credit

Wel I hear what ur saying and accept there is validity to much of what you say I cant help feel it is a bit more complex than that. It is not all so grim and there are some positve or progressive factors involved too.
The anti Globalization movement for example grew as a direct response and it has some very good ideas?

Its so complax we cannot begin to comprehend it so best to simplify so we can at least see the root of the problem.Originally Posted by xnine100

Organic foods are growing and its because small farmers can actually make a living selling it. But thats in the USA and Europe. But in much of the rest of the world farmers are being run out of buisness and taken over by corporate farms. Its a battle and its not a pretty picture

Interesting question.
What will substitute the states function?
But there will be one world-state instead?
or just internatioinal cooperation?
