This is a question for both Thais and foreigners.
If you're a foreigner, would you choose to be Thai in your next life?
If you're Thai, would you choose to be reborn as a Thai again?
My answer ~
For along time, I would have answered 'yes'. Now I'm not so sure anymore. Perhaps, living as a farang in Thailand is much easier than being Thai. Not only because farang usually earn more money, but there is usually less social restrictions placed on us foreigners. We can usually do pretty much whatever the hell we like (besides drugs) and Thais still seem to accept or at least tolerate us. Not so for Thais, especially girls here who constantly have to work to maintain a 'respectable' image.

I have been praying to have the same mom and dad in my next life so the answer would be 'yes'... I would "want" to be a Thai girl : )

No. I am happy to be a New Zealander, even happier to be a New Zelaander currently living in Thailand. Wouldn't change a thing

^^ I can only speak from my own experience. And since I've obviously never lived the life of a Thai then I can't know for sure.
But I remember when I studied at Thammasat, many of my Thai classmates, especially girls, always had to maintain a "good boy/girl" image, for example not going out too often or smoking in public. Whereas as a foreigner I could pretty much do whatever the hell I wanted....that's what I meant by easier, more freedom and not having to worry about being ostracized

You probably are ostracized. Just not to your face. That isn't meant as anything personal, just that just because locals don't say anything about a falang's behavior to him, doesn't mean they aren't all talking about it.

your country, and most of europe, face an interesting policy dilemma in the next few decades: birth rates are plummeting, the natives are ageing, and there's gonna be no one to do the work. this could tank the economy in the not too distant future. a relaxed immigration policy would provide adequate labor, but a huge percentage of people who want to immigrate to europe are muslims. obviously the vast majority of muslims aren't terrorists, but european culture and islam haven't shown a high degree of compatibility so far.Originally Posted by MichaelGray
