Thailands scam artists, just making a few bucks or subhuman?

That thread about being ripped off got me thinking (that was the grinding noise you heard).

The ones who do my head in are Indian looking suit sellers, tuk tuk drivers (pricks), taxi drivers who refuse to use payment meters, women who don't even try to get a job expecting the farang to foot every bill (whist waiting for tirak number 12 to land at the airport and the worst of all, chicks who try to get much older guys to give them cash for extended periods of time whilst banging every other dude with a cock. I am not talking girls working in bars either.
People on these forums laugh at these guys. I met a chap recently who lost quite a bit to a girl here, broke his heart.
He just spent the last 5 years caring for his dying wife and she passed he wanted to have a nice holiday and a deserved one too!
His wife had been unable to speak for the last 4 years and was pretty much mentally gone, when he heard a beautiful woman tell a sob story, he told his. Over a few weeks or months ( I don't know) she managed to get him in love with her as he said it was the first affection he had received from any woman for years. So he fell for her, lost a lot.
IS this guy an idiot? I don't think so. HE was a lonely dude, depressed and in need of some unconditional positive regard.
Poor (not metaphorically anymore) bloke. I felt really sorry for him.

Ten years ago it used to be gem and gold scam. This trick was a bit worn off, same as the touts near Royal Palace telling tourists that today the palace was closed and took them to other members of scammer mafia or suit vendors instead.

The usual suspects know that most farang are more and more aware of the typical scams. Therefore they move their business such as tourist airport scam. More tricky, way more criminal energy is involved.

I fear that the scams will turn more and more into typical crimes so that Bangkok might become an unsafe city to go out at night.
