Well Dave, It looks like the POMS just used up their "Good Luck" as Brett Lee was just been announced, as being Unfit for the upcoming Tests. So what does that mean for Australia. Not much. A New Up and Comer will be announced to take his place and the POMS will wish for the return of Bret Lee

Rumour also has it that the friendly Welsh have tied 5 sheep to a post in order to provide a leisure centre for the visiting Australian fans!!

it's ok to bowl a maiden or two over!!!!!:lol::lol:

even in 4 legs and a wooly coat?

What's the difference between Andrew Strauss and Michael Jackson's family?

MJ's family will be the only one with ashes on their mantlepiece in the summer.

In preparation for the ashes this summer against Australia, this demonstrates how simple the rules of cricket really are:

You have two sides, one out in the field and one in.

Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out.

When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side thats been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out.

Sometimes you get men still in and not out.

When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in.

there are two men called umpires who stay out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out.

When both sides have been in and all the men are out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game!.

Q Dave !!

the pitch looks like a cow paddock!!!! it ain't over yet fellas!!!:lol:

It's not the pitch....that's just Wales

and think the correct term is 'sheep paddock' so the Aussies should feel right at home...

That would be 1 for 21 stevie !!!!! :lol::lol::lol:

You have to understand Dave, that although Stevie may speak with a Scots accent, he also speaks with forked tongue. He is a Rangers fan and therefore is viewed on the same level as an Englishman by the rest of Scotland...

I heard Ricky Ponting walked into a library in England the other day and asked for a book on the Ashes. But the librarian told him to f**k off in case he didn't bring it back!

I think Bret Lee being unfit is a good thing for the Aussies. I watched him bowl an amazing spell against the Lions in a warm-up match - he was reversing it at over 90mph but I don't think he's fit enough to go an entire series which I think has been proved by the fact he knackered himself last week although he bowled well.

As a result, the Aussies have had to go with Siddle and Hilfenhaus who are both bowling well and it's virtually the same successful team that played in SA.

Surprisingly, despite the fact he's picked up the wicket of Strauss (gloved to slip) Johnson's much lauded reverse and conventional (both ways) swing hasn't been in evidence at all on this tour. Although he didn't get much of a chance in the 20/20 World Cup because Australia lost both their matches and went out in the first round.

* Bopara has just been done by a slower ball off Johnson. Pietersen has got a job to do now!

Hang on a minute, This is Lunch on Day 1 of the 1st Test. We are talking about 3 hrs worth of cricket here, not well into the Test Series as Kitschiguy's  comment implies :?: :?: :?:

I wasn't implying that Gav - I said on this tour not during this series. I think I'm right in saying that Johnson hasn't swung the ball since SA so maybe I should have said that instead. (I think they've been here for over 2 months)

If a team is going in to a test series I would think a bowlers performance and ability to swing matters weather it's in an ashes test, a warm-up, ODI or 20/20 and if he hasn't swung it in the warm-ups and 20/20's then he may not swing it in the tests and I think swing is going to be vital to both teams. That was really the point I was making :) Is just interesting to me because everyone has been expecting him to swing it a lot more and it came down to Bret Lee against the Lions which was interesting. Johnson was scrambling the seam and his wrist wasn't behind the ball so he may not have been trying to swing it.

But it's just an observation and I think it's fairly important to both teams as he's an extremely good bowler and I would say he's Ponting's 'go to' and your main strike bowler. He may well swing the ball after lunch and be reversing it by tea.

He's been bowling good variations this morning though - 2 wickets, one off a slower ball and one off a short ball.

I think the honours were about even on day one, England won the toss which put them in the drivers seat, the pitch will be hard to bat on in the fourth innings!!!

I really don't understand why they decided to play the test in Cardiff, I understand they payed alot of money to get the test there!!!!!!

Should of played it at other grounds in England!!!!!

I think I would give it to Australia - just. If only for the seven wickets. The run rate was pretty good though.

I would still be concerned about Nathan Hauritz despite his KP wicket (why did KP commit to a paddle-sweep on a ball around 2 feet outside off-stump!?) and the other spin options but Siddle and Hilfenhaus looked good all day.I thought Siddle was excellent - line, length, seam position and the in-swinger that got Matt Pryor was a corker.

It looked like a good track so I would think England will need 400+ to defend - Although a wicket turning on day one is a good sign for Swann and Panesar. It's going to be tough with only Broad and Swann to go and Jimmy Anderson the nightwatchman still at the crease but probably not for long. You can forget Monty Panesar.

Concerns for England are that all batsmen got a start but none went on to make big scores, although they all looked in good touch - even Flintoff who usually takes a while to get back in to his batting after coming back from injury, which is often :)

I would have sadi it was Englands day, except for the fact that Pieterson threw away his wicket. Yes it was a good scoring rate, Every batsman got a good start, but none of them went on. So I guess the day goes to Australia, almost but not quite, by default.
