It's Math's lesson, and we're revising for tomorrow's mid-term exams. Kids are trying to get their tongues around horrible words like parallelogram. Kru T sticks his head through the classroom door, megaphone in hand, alternatively blowing a whistle and yelling "reu reu!".Kids leap to their feet, pour out of umpteen classrooms and stampede, yes, stampede down to the football field. Screaming and yelling - what fun!My autistic student dives into the corner, covers his ears and screams. Foreign te
Ok ok I know that is an incredibly boring topic for a journal, but it's an issue in my life. We get to wear a "delightful" peach and brown uniform to school. As hideous as it is, it looks even more hideous when it's spattered with blue whiteboard ink. I have managed to wreck every one of my uniforms .... probably something to do with the fact that I wave my hands around a lot when I talk/teach, and I usually end up drawing all over myself. I'm left-handed, so all my uniforms have odd blue squig
Believe it. I've had pretty much the crappiest teaching day ever. Have you ever had an autistic child launch himself at you, with both fists and feet, from behind? Not nice.
I have 2 kids in my class that have been diagnosed with Aspergers syndrome, which is often called high functioning autism. Am I qualified to deal with this? No. But the school is quite happy to promise parents the world. Boy A is fine, requires extra one on one time, but if I show him I care, he responds beautifully.

Well, I'll be 30 this weekend. According to a few friends and relatives, and more than a few comments I've read on various websites, I should be writing my last will and testament and preparing to commit sewerage pipe. Single white chick in Asia. 30??????????? Life is over darling.
Is it? I suppose it all boils down to your definition of 'life'. On a recent visit back to SA, I got comments re the fact that I'm still 'buggering around in Asia' .....'come home and get married' .... 'c'mon Spratt,
absolute pet peeve. It's the reason I avoid places like shopping malls. I know it's hot in Thailand, but seriously, I didn't know it was physically possible to amble along quite that slowly!
I think the place where it bugs me the most is at the gym.
Walk. Or don't walk. It's not hard is it?
Can we blame walking slowly on the heat? Laziness? Or is it a way of killing time - after all, there's only so much to see in a mall, and if you're going to spend the whole day there (I would rather die
Well I thought that recent downpour would cool things down .... it's made it worse!!!!!
Our classrooms don't have air con cos they are bloody well building a lift for bloody people who can't walk up 2 flights of stairs ......
Actually looking forward to going to the gym - it will be nice and cool there! :-)
Taking bets: I'm fairly certain that my soi flooded. It always does. THink the waters will subside by the time I get home? (about 4 hours). I don't feel like wading today ....
Looking fo
Well, I?m back in Thailand after an amazing month back in South Africa. It was wonderful to go back and see family and friends, of course. But what made the holiday even better were the amazing, down-to-earth people I met along the way. I haven?t laughed so much in a long time.
Haenertzburg is up in the north of the country, near a town called Tzaneen. My mom and step-dad bought some land up there and it is beautiful beautiful beautiful. And the ?mountain folk? are extremely friendly with a st
Well, I've finally established exactly what to expect in the next academic year. I have been working through an agency, but my school has decided to run the International Program themselves, and employ their own staff. But, fortunately, they have asked me to stay on, and work directly for them.
At first I was torn - loyalty to my current employer and all that. But as time marched on, I realised that current employer didn't really give a continental hoo ha anyway. Which made the decision to work
Weird ... am going back to SA in April (hopefully). As the time draws closer ... the more homesick I feel ... shouldn't it be the other way around?
A mate sent me this ...
Within my soul, within my mind,
There lies a place I cannot find.
Home of my heart. Land of my birth.
Smoke-coloured stone
and flame-coloured earth.
Electric skies. Shivering heat.
Blood-red clay beneath my feet.
At night when finally alone,
I close my eyes -- and I am home.
I kneel and touch the blood-war
... but my legs hurt. And my butt. As inamoroto25 predicted ... it was just a matter of time until I started walking funny. Except it wasn't the BodyPump that did it. (Great class by the way).
I decided last night to take it easy at the gym, it being Monday and all. Took a squizz at the schedule ... .Burn and Tone .... ah that'll do the trick! I walked in, and noticed that most of the ladies were, um, older than me. Pish posh! This is going to be easy! Well let me tell you, those 'older' ladie
I used to hate my math teacher because she gave up on me when it came to getting the whole concept of fractions into my head. When I finally worked it out it all seemed logical though.
And now here I am, trying to get same concept through to 8 year olds. It's so easy to think, "But it's logical! Can't you see gawdamnit!!" ....
My brain is fried. I've tried a million things from getting them to draw pictures, make things then break them apart, even pile on top of each other for a good laugh, bu

Count 4 seconds out and imagine 400 people holding onto eachother in freefall ... amazing!

We have book week at school next week, and we have to dress up as a character from a book. Now I'm totally useless at making things, and besides, I'm really lazy in that department. Anybody know of places where I can rent a costume?
Thanks!

Ha! Who would have thunk. I am completely and totally addicted to my new place of worship - the gym. The more I go, the more I want to go ... It's all very bizzarre. And to top it all off, in previous forays into the fitness world, I've always preferred the solitary thing. Now, I catch myself planning my life around classes.
Have I lost my mind?
Bodycombat leaves me bright red in the face and staggering around gasping for breath but I'm on an incredible high when I leave. There's another clas
So ... just wondering. Why do people on this site WrItE lIke ThIs? It tAkEs AbsOluTE aGes?
Is there some kind of "netiquette" I don't know about? Or what? Not knocking anyone, just curious as to the reasons why ... Enlighten me
I could hear the music as I came up the elevator. Thrilled, I eagerly pushed past a few people (why do people always walk so incredibly slowly in shopping centers?????). I was keen. I was motivated. Today was the day I was going to get my bum into gear. A comment re the infamous BKK belly in a testimonial had got me thinking. Fortunately it coincided with the opening of the gym I have joined.
Along with the grand opening, came a free assessment and a few free workouts with a personal trainer.
Rabbit's clever," said Pooh thoughtfully.
"Yes,"said Piglet, "Rabbit's clever."
"And he has Brain."
"Yes," said Piglet, "Rabbit has Brain."
There was a long silence.
"I suppose," said Pooh, "that that's why he never understands anything."
Note: I have no idea why I'm loving Pooh this week. Next week it'll be something different ...
This is working for me today ...
""When you wake up in the morning, Pooh," said Piglet at last, "what's the first thing you say to yourself?"
"What's for breakfast? said Pooh. "What do you say, Piglet?"
"I say, I wonder what's going to happen exciting today?" said Piglet.
Pooh nodded thoughtfully.
"It's the same thing," he said"
