Is it love?

I've known her for two years, first as classmates then as good friends. Nothing's ever happened, but i've always felt that this girl is almost too good to be true...beautiful, very intellegent, idealistic and compassionate. When i'm with her, it reminds me of the sort of person I want to be cuz she's just so damn good in very respect of the word. The last time I saw her, we ended up having a conversation that lasted hours yet was totally effortless. U know that feeling when two minds are on

Stolen Phone, Broken Heart

On a 3rd class train from Surat Thani to Bangkok last night, my mobile phone got stolen while I was sleeping.  It was taken out of my pocket and by the time I realized it was gone, the theif had already turned off the phone.  All this time there was only one person sitting next to me, and I'm sure he was the one who took it.  I called the train police, but unfortunately with no proof there was nothing they could do.The sad thing is along with the phone I lost several important phone numbers, inc

Punk Concert in Chiang Mai (!)

Chiang Mai is famous for its beautiful teak Lanna-style temples.  Its famous for treks to the surrounding mountains and hill tribe villages.  Its famous for its handicrafts and the oppurtunity to study Thai massage, take a cooking course, or practice vipassana. It is definetly not famous for having any sort of punk scene. But sure enough, when I arrived last week, I saw a few scattered flyers advertising a punk concert which took place last night (the 24th).  I used to go to lots of punk concer

Buying Love - By the Kilogram

It has long been common for men from wealthy countries who are either unable or uninterested in marrying a woman of their own nationality to look for love in the developing world.  Often, such marriages come with a price tag, as the family of the woman will expect some kind of financial incentive for approving the marriage. Now, however, some women are apparently jumping on the cash-for-love bandwagon.  For example, overweight Taiwanese women often find it exetremely difficult to find a husb

The Rave

This is a poem I wrote a long time ago (in 2003) back when I was partyin' and going to lots of raves.  I just found it again and it was amusing reading something written by an old self.  Hope u guys enjoy reading it and if u were part of the rave scene at some point then you'll know what i'm talkin' bout! As the late hour advances a clan bounces into the night wearing smiles of anticipation. An empty, faceless space beckons it is here they will unite. The door opens, step inside a ca

The Crazy Monk

The following is a travelogue about my trip to Vietnam.  If you're really bored it might be worth a read...lol.The town of Dalat is nestled amidst mountains and lakes in the Central Highlands region of Vietnam.  With its stunning mountain views and crisp, cool air, Dalat has long attracted local artists and eccentrics who call the town home.  But perhaps the strangest person in Dalat is a monk by the name of Vien Thuc, nicknamed the "Crazy Monk" by the locals. The only monk of Lam Ty Ni Pagoda, M

The Pitfalls of Being Rich

In the past six months, I've gotten "rich" working in Cambodia.  No, certainly not rich by Western standards, or even neccesarily by Thai standards.  But in a country where most people earn less than $50 (or 2,000 baht) a month, my pockets are lined with gold in comparison.  Since I make around 30 times that amount, in the eyes of the locals, I'm pretty well loaded. And I won't deny it, being "rich" can be fun.  I can eat out at the best restaurants, shop in the best boutiques, and go clubbing an

Gonzo in Cambodia

It was just past 11:30 pm last Saturday night, and our monthly gathering called "Music Club" was close to wrapping up.  Most of the beers lying in the cooler had been drunk, and the wine bottles had long been emptied.  A few of us lingered behind in the outdoor lounge chairs sipping beers, as others went out for a nightcap while some went home to crash. It was at this point that Don* (names changed) suggest we cook up a bottle of K at his place and watch a trippy movie.  We wanted to watch "Being

Teaching English in Cambodia

Many people on this site seem curious to know about what's it like teaching English in Cambodia.  Lots of people know about teaching English in Thailand, but Cambodia is still a more exotic and less-known destination for teaching.  So I'll try to sum up some of my experiences in this journal.A few years ago, it really was possible for anyone - and I mean literally anyone - to find a teaching job in Phnom Phenh.  So long as you could speak English, the logic went, you were qualified enough to be

Of Hijacked Accounts and Desperate Men

Today I found out that my MSN account password had been stolen by a Cambodian man.  I only found out because a number of my female friends on TF were sent messages from a man on my MSN, and then realized that it couldn't be me and mentioned it the next time we chatted together.  (So 2 all my friends that have been getting weird msgs lately..this is why)I've registered a new MSN account and changed the password on my old account.  So this should prevent this creep from using my identity.Unfortuna

Music Club in Phnom Phenh

This past Saturday evening, a group of friends gathered in Phnom Phenh for the once-monthly gathering called "Music Club".  This month, the event was held at Kathy's house, a spacious two-story place near the Russian Market. The vibe at Music Club is always really chilled.  Basically, all the members bring in a track of their favorite music for the rest of the club to comment on, all the while knocking back bottles of wine and sharing tokes from the endless spliffs that circulate amongst us.  Its

First Blog

A friend told me about ThailandFriends.com so I decided to join.  So far I like the layout of the site - nice and easy to use.  I probably won't buy premium membership just yet, so I'm not sure if I'm allowed to send messages - but I've posted my e-mail address on my profile to anyone who wants to contact me.A few days ago, I went to a club called Heart of Darkness in Phnom Phenh.  Anyone who's been to Cambodia before knows that this club is the place to go dancing in PP, as its got pretty good
