Worst massage ever.

Just got back from having what was by far the worst massage I have ever had in twenty years of coming to Thailand. There are always some that are not so good, but this one was just plain BAD!! I was going to go to Healthland Asoke, but was tired, and it is always a wait, so I decided to try a place just along from my hotel in Soi 19, called Reflex. I knew almost the second she started that this was not going to be a good one. The girl didn't have a clue. Most of it consisted of her digging her elbows into me with as much force as she could, and when she wasn't doing that, the rest of it was her probably just trying to mimic things that she had watched other masseuses doing. I lasted about 15 mins before cutting it short and leaving. Healthland in the morning.

Airport Train (Part 2)

After trying the City Line a couple of weeks ago, today I thought that I would try the Express Line from the airport into BKK (Makkasan). 90 baht one way. The first drawback is the frequency the train runs, i.e. every 35 mins, which means quite a wait if you just miss one. I had a twenty minute wait. It normally takes me about 40 mins in a taxi door to door the hotel in Soi 19. The Express train is more comfortable, and far less busy than the City Line one, which seems to be used by commuters. Nice quick journey into BKK. i didn't realise that there was an MRT station close to Makkasan, that goes to Asoke. Would have made my journey a lot quicker. As it was, to get a taxi, you have to exit through the barriers, descend to the first floor, then go back up to the third floor.I had to wait about ten mins for a cab, then got stuck in horrendous traffic. Landed Suvarnbhumi 11:30, arrived hotel Soi 19 about 13:45. I think that I will stick to taking a cab in future.

Airport Train.

I used that airport train for the first time this morning. Its pretty cool. Well, it was for me, travelling with no luggage. I must admit, I wouldn't like to be lugging heavy bags up and down those stairs. Probably why it seems to be used more by commuters than tourists. Flew in from Samui to do some shopping, and thought that I would give it a try. Landed 10:35, and was in MBK by 11:35. Took the line to Phaya Thai, then changed. Did MBK, Pantip and Central World. Coming back went from Ratchaprarop about 4 ish, giving plenty of time for my 17:30 flight back. 40 or 45THB each way. Can't remember which.

Stinking rich: Walker finds whale vomit 'worth £100,000' on Morecombe beach.

It smells like horse manure and looks like a dirty beach rock but this lump of ‘floating gold’ could pocket one man over £100,000. The unusual ‘stone’ is believed to be a piece of rare and valuable whale vomit, or ambergris, an in-demand ingredient used in perfumes such as Chanel No.5. Lancashire resident Ken Wilman discovered the 3kg lump while out walking his boxer dog Madge on Morecambe beach. ‘I didn’t actually realise what it was at first, I couldn’t understand why Madge was so interested in it,’ he explained. ‘It smelled horrible.’ ‘I left it, came back home and looked it up on the internet. When I saw how much it could be worth, I went back to the beach and grabbed it!’ Mr Wilman has already been offered $50,000 (£42,000) for his find by a French ambergris dealer, but experts believe it could be worth much more once it has been officially verified.

Clever guy....until he got caught.

Rob. Is this why you went back to Thailand? US employee 'outsourced job to China' The employee spent a nine-to-five workday surfing the internet A security check on a US company has reportedly revealed one of its staff was outsourcing his work to China. The software developer, in his 40s, is thought to have spent his workdays surfing the web, watching cat videos on YouTube and browsing Reddit and eBay. He reportedly paid just a fifth of his six-figure salary to a company based in Shenyang to do his job. Operator Verizon says the scam came to light after the US firm asked it for an audit, suspecting a security breach. According to Andrew Valentine, of Verizon, the infrastructure company requested the operator's risk team last year to investigate some anomalous activity on its virtual private network (VPN) logs. "This organisation had been slowly moving toward a more telecommuting oriented workforce, and they had therefore started to allow their developers to work from home on certain days. In order to accomplish this, they'd set up a fairly standard VPN concentrator approximately two years prior to our receiving their call," he was quoted as saying on an internet security website. The company had discovered the existence of an open and active VPN connection from Shenyang to the employee's workstation that went back months, Mr Valentine said. And it had then called on Verizon to look into what it had suspected had been malware used to route confidential information from the company to China. "Central to the investigation was the employee himself, the person whose credentials had been used to initiate and maintain a VPN connection from China," said Mr Valentine. Further investigation of the employee's computer had revealed hundreds of PDF documents of invoices from the Shenyang contractor, he added. The employee, an "inoffensive and quiet" but talented man versed in several programming languages, "spent less than one fifth of his six-figure salary for a Chinese firm to do his job for him", Mr Valentine said. "Authentication was no problem. He physically FedExed his RSA [security] token to China so that the third-party contractor could log-in under his credentials during the workday. It would appear that he was working an average nine-to-five work day," he added. "Evidence even suggested he had the same scam going across multiple companies in the area. All told, it looked like he earned several hundred thousand dollars a year, and only had to pay the Chinese consulting firm about $50,000 (£31,270) annually." The employee no longer worked at the firm, Mr Valentine said.

86 vs 26

Looks like someone started off the new year with a big smile on his face. I wonder how she will ever find the energy to keep up with him: Playboy boss HUGH HEFNER has wed his girlfriend CRYSTAL HARRIS. The 86 year old publishing tycoon and 26-year-old Harris exchanged vows at the Playboy Mansion in Beverly Hills, California on Monday (31Dec12). The excited bride kept fans updated about her big day with posts on Twitter.com; in one she wrote, "Today is the day I become Mrs. Hugh Hefner. Feeling very happy, lucky, and blessed." She also uploaded a picture of staffers setting up the altar, alongside a caption which read, "The mansion is looking beautiful #weddingbells". Hefner and Harris were originally set to walk down the aisle last year (Jun11), but the model-turned-lingerie store owner got cold feet and called off the wedding. They reconciled in May (12) and Hefner proposed again earlier this month (Dec12), announcing he was planning to ring in 2013 as a married man. This is his third marriage - he was married to Mildred Williams from 1949 to 1959, and he wed Kimberley Conrad in 1989. The couple divorced in 2010.

Sir Patrick Moore RIP

Probably more known to us Brits, the astronomer and tv personality, Sir Patrick Moore died today. British astronomer and broadcaster Sir Patrick Moore has died, aged 89, his friends and colleagues have said. He "passed away peacefully at 12:25 this afternoon" at his home in Selsey, West Sussex, they said in a statement. Sir Patrick presented the BBC programme The Sky At Night for over 50 years, making him the longest-running host of the same television show ever. He wrote dozens of books on astronomy and his research was used by the US and the Russians in their space programmes. Described by one of his close friends as "fearlessly eccentric", Sir Patrick was notable for his habit of wearing a monocle on screen and his idiosyncratic style. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-20657939

The THB25,000,000 dog.

This little dog and his 17 year old owner/trainer won the final of last night's Britain's Got Talent show. The prize was £500,000, which is approximately 25,000,000 baht, plus an appearance in front of H.M. The Queen in the Royal Variety Show. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSNCeFjcXrw&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KHS8QqzfWc&feature=watch_response

There's a snake in ma hoose!

[h=1]Terrifying snake is actually draught excluder[/h] [h=2]Scottish SPCA called in to deal with beast[/h] Posted by DominicBrookman 03 April 2012 13:59 A bit of late-lunchtime levity now, in a story that's being picked up by many news sites online. A woman at her home in Kingswells, near Aberdeen, had a nasty shock when she found a 5ft-long snake in her loft - not what you want when you're trying to do the housework. After a quick phone call the Scottish SPCA came to the rescue, using their finely honed skills to deal with... what was actually a lookalike draught excluder. Take a look at the terrifying beast here. For those of you worried about Sid the Snake's future, rest assured - it's now having a comfortable life, presumably excluding plenty of draughts, at the Scottish SPCA's Aberdeen Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre.

Northern Lights over U.K.

Normally only seen much further north. Due to strong solar flare activity, the Northern Lights, aka Aurora Borealis have been visible over much of northern England and Scotland the past few nights. Not sure if I posted this before, but part of a BBC documentary where Joanna Lumley searches out the Northern Lights. Watch the part from about 4:30 where the "Lights" appear:
