I just this Visa run and thought I'll give you a few tips that will help. 1. Get the Lao visa 1st while you are in Thailand. You can get it at the border but it is an bit of wait, and depending on how unlucky you are you may have to wait in line 2x because you didnt fill out one of the 2 forms that are needed. (Time is of essence since the Thai embasy only accepts visa applications before noon.) Also you can take a bus directly from Udon-Thani to Vientiane if you have the visa. Saves you quite a
