Two days ago, I sat in a poky little office in the free trade zone of Dubai filling out forms, doing eye tests and paying a crapload of money ... all to get that little piece of laminated plastic that spells independence here in desert town. With the exams over and about 10 days to spare before my parents get here, I've decided to take off to the islands this weekend and for most of next week. Was thinking of going to Phuket first. I haven't been there in like two years. Can anyone recommend good places to stay? Also, what about Samui? Never been there...is it any good and where is a good place to stay?

After reading NigelBragg's journal, I was reminded of something that happened at my university here in Thailand just yesterday. My university is very strict about the 'dress code'. We can't enter campus unless our shirts are tucked into our skirts/trousers, we must wear shoes with ankle straps, our skirts must be pencil or tulip styles (no A-lines or box pleats allowed) and under no circumstances can we take food into the classrooms. In the span of just one day, I have been told twice that there are 'man words' and 'words not becoming of a woman'. I'm sorry, I wasn't aware we had divided the words up between the sexes. Well...I didn't want to admit it but it's true. I have a serious substance abuse problem. Every morning they're at it. They wake me up and then I can't get back to sleep - he's very noisy, usually because he's trying to convince her to let him get on top. She just sits there and ignores him until she can stand it no more. When he does get on top,he's awkward and clumsy and falls off a lot - if I were her I'd hurl him off the edge myself. My Mum called a few minutes ago to tell me she is making a hasty flight back home for a few days.The reason?
