The Contender: Muay Thai

The Contender was a reality boxing contest in the U.S.A.  Now there will be The Contender: Muay Thai.  I heard that most of it is filmed in Thailand.  Does anyone know anything else about it?  I am really excited to watch this series. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1r15u_contendermuaythai

Very cheap, Very good, Very Vietnam

I have spent the last month travelling from north to south Vietnam and tomorrow I fly to Bangkok to spend 2 weeks in Thailand. I haven't had as much fun travelling since I first travelled through Thailand 2 years ago. Vietnam and Thailand are my two favorite places to travel. The terrific food, interesting culture, and friendly people make travelling so rewarding in both countries. I am sad to leave Vietnam, but I look forward to seeing my friends in Thailand. See you soon, FL

Cyberathlete Professional League

I was watching the TV show "60 Minutes" this evening and there was a segment about the Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL) where gamers compete for money. Apparently, there are tournaments where the winners can win up to $150,000! I'm just a moderate gamer, but maybe if I "trained" more, I could compete some day, or not. Anyway, if you are good at shooter games, check this out: http://www.thecpl.com/league/

Jury Duty

Has anyone served on a jury before? Is it interesting or incredibly boring? I was sent a jury summon, which requires me to be in court on November 7, 2005 for jury selection. Although, I will be busy with work, I hope I do get selected to serve on a jury. I think it would be interesting.

Around the World in 90 Minutes

On August 1st I went to the Heritage Days festival in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Heritage Days is an annual festival holiday to recognize and celebrate the varied cultural heritage of Canadians. There were several ethno-cultural communities that displayed their cultures? traditional cuisine, entertainment, interpretive materials, and crafts. Anyway, it was refreshing to see the diversity of people at this festival. Here are some of the cultural groups that were represented.

Google Earth!!!

I just found out about Google Earth (http://earth.google.com/) last night through my roommate. I am so amazed that this kind of information is available for free!! "Google Earth combines satellite imagery, maps and the power of Google Search to put the world's geographic information at your fingertips." If you are into geography, cartography, GIS, maps, etc. you should check it out. I was able to pinpoint the exact location of my house, find the elevation gain of the mountain I rode today,

Back to Reality

After 36 hours of travelling and time spent waiting in transit, I am finally home. The only thing I enjoyed about the flights home was the service provided by Asiana Airways. For those that don't know, Asiana has the best onboard service and flight attendants in the world (Global Traveller Magazine). My friend, Steve, and I were also lucky enough to be upgraded to business class on our flight from BKK to Seoul. That was sweet! Other than that, the flights home were tiring and boring, as usu

SCUBA Divng in Koh Tao

I just finished a four day PADI Open Water Diver SCUBA course at Ban's Diving Resort in Koh Tao. My original plan was to accompany Filurina to meet CutieGirl in Koh Tao, then go to Koh Samui, and then to Koh Phangan for the Fullmoon Party. However, upon arrival in Koh Tao, CutieGirl convinced me that this was a great place to learn to SCUBA dive. Since I had served my purpose in being May's bodyguard on the trip down to the islands, I let the girls go on their own way to Koh Samui to hunt fo

Cambodia

I am writing this entry from a rustic internet cafe in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. So, who has been to Cambodia? I understand that being called Cambodian is an insult to some people in Thailand. It is true that Cambodians in general are less well off than most Thais, but the people here are very friendly and charming. I have been in Cambodia since last Tuesday and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here. I am also getting my fair share of live kick boxing. A ticket to live Khmer Boxing (same same

Fun Songkran Plans?

Hello TFers, What kind of fun Songkran plans do you have? My travelling friend is going to abandon me and go to Bali during the week of Songkran, so I am looking for some good ideas on how to spend Songkran as a solo traveller. I have tentatively planned to spend a couple days (April 13-14) around KSR. Based on my experience from last year, two days of non-stop partying and water fighting is enough. Please share your ideas! Thanks.

Ong Bak

Yesterday, I went to see "Ong Bak" on the opening night in North America. I understand that this movie was originally released in Thailand in 2003. The plot was crap, but the action sequences were amazing! The movie was intense, gritty, and brutally violent. As a dude, I must say that I was thoroughly entertained! Even a girl I went with said that the movie was "Rad!" Panom Yeerum (a.k.a. Tony Jaa) is the man! Some say that he is the next Jackie Chan. Is Tony Jaa a big star in Thailand

Confessions of a computer geek

Here is my first journal entry inspired by personal home computer withdrawal. I got the "Sasser" virus on my computer this weekend, which prevents a computer from starting up. It was big pain in the ass and even with all my computer geekness there was nothing I could do, but attempt to reinstall my operating system. However, my less than 1 month old cdrom was not working, so I could not install anything, and therefore there was nothing I could do. I swallowed my pride and made up my mind t
