IF you think the world's worst tourists are loud-mouthed Americans or Germans who grab all the banana lounges, think again.

The travellers that hoteliers everywhere say are a real nightmare are the British.

They are notorious for drunken behaviour, general rudeness and for not being able to speak a word of the local language.

The damning verdict comes from a survey of European hotel chains by the travel company Expedia.

Not only were Britons regarded as rude, messy and loud, they were criticised for eating nearly as much as Americans.

By contrast, the Japanese, American and German tourists were the best-behaved visitors.

The survey of more than 4000 hoteliers found that the British were still one of the worst at speaking the local language.

In spite of their shortcomings, Britons are often liked by hoteliers because they spend plenty of money. They were second only to the Americans in this category.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Americans were voted the loudest on holiday, followed by the Italians and the British; the Japanese and Germans were the quietest.

The Americans were also voted the least polite; the Japanese the most polite.

The behaviour of French, Chinese, Mexican and Russian tourists was also sharply criticised: hoteliers said they were loud, obnoxious and unfriendly.

The Germans were praised for their tidiness and for usually leaving their bedrooms spotless before the maid arrived.

try israelis they wanna pay 50 baht and get service for 5000 and complain all time or come in my restaurant with bottled water order 1 pizza with 3 extra plates and fork and knife extra and then complain again if you charge then extra for extra dish and cutlery

so if you see it that way i loe loud germans americans and brits not too but moneywhise i do like them somehow

@overthetop - if you think that English language is the natural language of the brain, where, you superbrain does it come from ? Yes, right, English, Dutch and German - they all descend from West Germanic language. So what is German language then ? The super-natural language of the brain ?

To stay on the topic: I hate those narrow - minded blokes who get up with the chickens, no matter where they come from, but it seems that Germans invented the pooltowel idiocy.

Im my worst 5 of bad behaviour I have encountered abroad there are Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese,Russian and a nation in middle east a German must not give an opinion about..

From what I have seen here in Germany the top rank are by far the Japanese. They are very polite, somehow humble and shy and this reserved attitude is well - liked here.

The Japanese are perceived to be ideal travellers but this is only because they won't make a scene. A complaint from a Japanese guest is rarely lodged on property but instead it will be in writing to their Travel Agent who will subsequently threaten to pull all of their business if appropriate compensation, written apologies and a great deal of arse licking is performed. They are certainly the hardest market not only to break into but also to maintain.

Aussies may seem like great guests but it is only because generally we are not all that well travelled and as such easily impressed. A cold beer and a warm smile will generally solve most problems - buy the beer and you have really won them over ;-)

Think it depends where you go; In Europe I think the English are probably the worst by far. Certainly the worst I encountered in Th was the Israelis; never mind a chip on the shoulder, they had a bloody potato field!!!

An Australian guy goes into a bar in the Greek Islands. Jill, the

Australian barmaid takes his order and notices his Australian accent. Over the course of the night they talk quite a bit. At the end of the night he asks her if she wants to have sex with him.
