His name is Erik Mongrain and he's brilliant. He's a French Canadian and he has taken a totally different approach to the guitar.  Thanks to Japhrodisiac for turning me on to this.Enjoy

Great, here comes someone else that makes me want to put my guitars in a pile and set fire to them....lol

Brilliant stuff..His playing style kinda reminds me of an unplugged Jeff Healey...

you can hear more of his playing on his website www.erikmongrain.com. he has yet to record an album.

some of his stuff varies a bit in style. and he plays some compositions holding the guitar in the traditional fashion.

as for not singing, well, there is still an audience for this kind of stuff. listen to the late Michael Hedges. never sung a word, but he had/has a tremendous following. same for a few others in this style.

i doubt he'll be consigned to novelty act status. he's just too good.

You're welcome Robert. I find that people that look at something in a whole new light are tremendously inspiring people. Stanley Jordan, Bela Fleck, Jeff Healey, Emmett Chapman, etc. I saw a guy in Jamaica once playing a guitar with one string , singing and harmonizing with himself and it was just incredible. The guy was just full of music, bursting to get out of him. Enjoy.

Wes Montgomery didn't really play acoustic, Khun_Lung. He was an electric jazz guitartist. One of the best, though.

You can even find his model of guitar on sale in some music shops here in Bangkok.
