Just curious what the ediqite is for tipping in Thailand.  Sorry about my spelling but I am always confused about how much or if any that I should leave for a tip when I eat out in Thailand.  In the USA is easy to know how much, you can either double the tax or leave about 15 percent of the total bill for a tip.  Some thai women that I have gone out with say no tip is necessary but then others say leave small amount.  Is this just a farang custom or do Thai's actually leave tips as well?

i would say thai people with money tip more then farang and thai with no money tip as good as they can. Farang do not tip alot well yes the first timers might tip more but in general the thais tip more.

How much?

Some resturants have 10 % already and 7 % tax so them u not have to tip.

But the other once is up to you

Most places, the tip goes to the house or is split among all the employees, if the tip is left on the tip tray, bar, or table. Unless you give the server or waiter/waitress the tip in hand, then they get it all. Average is about 10%, and I guess it's up to the individual to tip or not? I see other's tip and not tip, whether they're Thai's or farangs. A lot of places already charge 10/15% on the total......so be aware of this.

I usually do. it's your choice. If the service is good by all means leave a tip. If bad service I think not. In Mainland USA 15% is added to bill & it goes to the person who served you, or they might divide it up between them. I don't know if it is the same now or different.Haven't been there for a long time. For those type of Jobs in the USA only pay at most $7 per hour. Which is not good money, but add the tips to that & it becomes reasonable

At common street restaurants like noodle shops I don't tip at all. In fancier restaurants 10% service is usually already included and anything else is at your discretion. I tip taxi drivers an extra five baht for most trips.

Tips based on service, good service= good tip, bad service = NO TIP!! This is my rule for most places but did you know??

No tipping in Japan. It's taken as an insult, like here's some money so you can go study more and learn how to serve or cook better.
