“Nicolas Sarkozy elected president of France ”

It's on the headline of every newspaper and every news channel. I don't have to be relative of Nostradamus but Sarko's victory is so predictable.

Even tho, this make me kinda sad. Look back… when Josh Bush won and become the president for the second time after what he did in Iraq .

I was very mad with American people.

Why? I kept asking myself again and again. And I thought of the video that Osama launched just a week before US election.

(Do you remember?)

I concluded that American people voted Bush out of fear.

Osama said. “To American people, it doesn't matter who will be your president, I will burn your house anyway” At those time I thought Osama just gave his friend a favor. And the plan works well. Out of fear, American voted Bush because they wanted the war to go on, they wanted security in their own country and Bush will do it better than his competitor will. I THINK AGAIN!!! No… conclusion can't be that easy.

It gotta be something more complicate, those American are not stupid.

I think American people know well what their president is doing.

They know that Saddam has no harm to them.

They know that what's going on in Iraq has nothing to do with democracy campaign.

It's all about OIL. And that's mean money, let Bush take the oil so we can remain our wealth.

That's why they voted for Bush. Eureka !!!! Thaksin got elected for the second time too.

I can tell many reasons why he got elected again

but that's not gonna finish in one journal. Power of capitalism, religion of money, make it fast, bring it more.

That's the way people live these day. Back to Sarkozy, his policy is liberalized economy of France .

One of his campaign said if you work over time you don't have to pay tax for the money you get paid from over time job.

Sound good isn't it? Is it that important to be a wealthy country? Even me… I'd say yes when I think about getting a visa to go somewhere.

All the conditions that set by capitalism make it so hard.

Other than that, I can say it's not that important, the priority is not that high.

I don't think many people will agree on this.

Because I see the return of Bush, the glory of Thaksin and Victory of Sarkozy.

The sufficient campaign that our government (for now) keep advertise on TV.

It sound very beautiful, will be very good if someone can live sufficiently. The question is… how many people can really do that?

The one mistake you made was not that Americans are stupid (aren't the Swiss supposed to be neutral) but his name is George Bush :-)

Also, I don't think things are as simple as they appear. In the US you have two political parties; Democrats and Republicans. There are some smaller parties but I don't think that combined they make up 10% of the vote. The problem is that the people who head each party are usually extremists.

Great system, huh? :-)

Bush was elected for a second term because even most Democrats didn't like John Kerry. There are a lot of reasons for that but I think what it really came down to is that John Kerry isn't a leader. He's a bright and articulate man but he's not exactly the kind of person many people view as a leader. The Democrats selected him because he was the exact opposite of George Bush but just because people may not like George Bush doesn't necessarily mean they want the exact opposite. :-)

I'm sorry you feel so upset by all of this. But, like you said, Thaksin was re-elected. I don't think that makes Thai people bad or stupid people. America re-elected Bush. Contrary to what hully says that doesn't make us bad or stupid people :-) And Sarkozy being elected in France doesn't make the French bad or stupid people. Politics can be very frustrating and sometimes it feels like everything is beyond your ability to influence but it's people like you who write passionately about what they believe in who usually end up making the biggest difference.

Take care!

Well, Sawitree, I understand your general feeling, but I do not necessarily agree with the specifics of what you wrote. I used to believe communism was the way to go when I was younger. However, I travelled the world, saw a lot of different regimes but always the same problems... I think it is not so much about the political regime than it is about how the country is actually run. The real problem = corruption, bureaucratic inefficiency, disrespect of the poor, erosion of the middle class, agressive international politic = they can exist in any regime... That's why it is so complex, no easy political solution. Another problem is that power corrupt and the finest most idealistic person can become a disillusionned corrupted bastard after governing a while...

Well thanks for an interesting journal entry :D ...Keep it coming and you'll have an additional reader.

If Rudy Giuliani is elected President in '08, I'd be f**king upset. Although I like some of his liberal values like pro-choice, pro-gay, stem cell research, the man has nothing to sell except 9/11, war on terrorism, and self-proclaimed leadership. Expect to hear a lot about terrorism from this guy or something like - America needs a strong President during war time. Well, we wouldn't be in a f**king war if not because of false intelligence. No republicans are talking about WMDs now. Anyway, expect this guy to start a campaign of fear built on 9/11 event (7 years ago!!!). The man really has nothing else to sell.

Sorry, I just have too much hate for this man.

I'm one who thinks democracy is wonderful, and capitolism is good as long as it is mixed with some socialistic programs to benefit the disadvantaged and help create an economic middle class. Where to balance capitolism and some socialism is really the trick to a successful society. My time working in Mexico really makes me appreciate the government in the United States. I'm not saying that corruption does not exist in the US, because it certainly does, but it does not completely paralyze the country like it does here in Mexico.

I do agree with you Sinderella. very much indeed

The entire post of yours it is very well summarised in the few words you put in its middle

"Power of capitalism, religion of money, make it fast, bring it more."

Obviously if we use the term "capitalism" we are immediatly accused to be "communist" (you can say it to me, I don't take it bad at all). But the issue, as Mazzy pointed out, is far more complicate and to be fair with complexity of everyday life i don't make reference anymore to obsolete concepts like communism and capitalism. None of the two exist anymore. What is left is their failure. Mankind's failure.

The failure of those who believe in power, in money, in doing everything fast and do it bigger.

Your sad series of statement, at least, show that not everybody gave up and is happy with that.

PS it is my first post, so my apologies if I did not respect the netiquette properly.
