I have recently spent 6 days working in the rice fields ploughing and planting. It was great fun and an excellent way to be accepted by the locals. However it was also long days, bloody hard work, so damn hot and scarey as hell because everyone thought it was fun to throw something at the ting tong farang's legs and scream SNAKE.In recent weeks i have also been up in the hills mushroom picking, regularly been at the road side early in the morning giving the monks Alms food, visited the local temple on numerous occassions for breakfast and annoyed the hell out of my mate by calling him while i was on a motorbike. Interested to know what "Thai": things others living in Thailand have been involved in as im looking for something new. Cheers

done all the back breaking stuff with rice - ploughing, planting, weeding, harvesting . . . and yep it's a great new experience. Actually I think it's something that some of these Thai city kids should get out and do, so they will realise that life on the other side isn't full of BMWs, Benz', fancy shopping malls and department stores, etc.

As for yourself, as Manee said, there are some great out-of-the-way homestays that are not commercialised, and the people are very hospitable; however, if you don't speak Thai, then sign lingo will suffice.
