Last night i travelled back from ban bao, south Koh Chang, to Udon Thani and what a journey it was.We arrived at the bus station at 10.10 only to discover we had just missed a bus to the ferry. They only run on the hour and take 40 minutes to get to the ferry which leaves half past the hour, bloody great plan.So we missed the ferry and our connecting mini bus so had to make new plans. Waited 3 hours in Trat for a bus and then 2 hours in Chonanburi for connection.Total travel tiem 22 hours 15 mins, i could have flown back to london taken a train to manchester and been in the local pub in less time.I need advice from anyone who has good experience of driving round thailand. In 2 weeks i have to drive to Trat from Udon Thani to start my new life on Koh Chang running a beach bungalow resort. What an amazing place it will be to live.My planned journey will include using the 304 from Nakhon Ratchasima to Sa Kaeo and the 317 from Sa Keao to Chantaburi.Does anyone know the quality of these roads are they ok or is best to stick to the main roads. Thanks for any help.

why u don't fly from udon thani to bkk and then has transfer flight , fly with bkk airway to trat. it's expensive but u can save time . i don't know about the transportation link betwenn trat to isann provice . if it doesn't have direct bus from trat to udon thani so u must take long time like that.

Min - Ok ur with me now. Taking a pick uptruck, motorbike, 2 dogs, fridge, washing machine and god knows what else might be a bit pricey as excess baggage

Go to any roadhouse and buy a Roadway Thailand Atlas

They have all the roads clearly marked and you can see exactly the condition

of any road anywhere in Thailand Its a handy book and only 199THB :-)

Korat to Sa Kaew is a main highway, and an easy drive of 108 klm

From Sa Kaew to Chan/buri is about 160klm on a provincial highway

It should alos be a good drive with the odd farmers truck to watch out for :-)

Ghee - Mate i am sure you would appreciate my nudity as much as i would appreciate yours

Lizardo - dont want to say until all is finalised

Tony will do, have seen little of the island so far. Was on it for less then 20 hours. Will take and post later

Idar - yep there is a few of the little basterds about. Chang reminded me of a great time i had on Lanta.

Anemglishman - i will probably chicken out and stick to main roads, but the additional distance is huge

Dave - c u down here, 1st beer on me

dont get anything but just a normal road map from any petrol station. folow the main national roads and everything will be ok. in the past i travelled a lot in thailand and roads were more than ok. sometimes you might get to some roads or bridges under construction but if you dont drive a ferrari you will make it. beware of the thai police speed check. 200 baht should do it nowadays. used to be 100 few years ago but things move on. have fun
