Define "cheap." I travel between these two often. Staying in either of these cities will be more expensive than staying in say Burlingame, Daly City or near SFO (south of SF) or Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx (NYC Boroughs). You'll be hard pressed to find anything decent under $200 per night in NYC or under $150 per night in SF. The time you're traveling is late summer and hotels will be in high demand in both cities. In SF, try the Marriott Courtyard on 2nd Street @ Folsom. In NYC, try the smaller venues (Liberty Inn, Chelsea Hotel) and of course don't forget to scour the online sites specializing in this area like hotels.com, Orbitz, Travelocity, etc. Good luck. Cheers.

I live in NYC in Queens and despite others posts which are avery wrong you can get very good rates.... hotels.com and others especially coming in spetember which is very off time of year.

The Bronx is kind of far and still dangerous at night, staten Island...forget about it way to far!!!!

Queens and long Island City is not bad is right on the subway line right into midtown also flushing which is right on the 7train and is like a larger china town and cheaper you can look at the subway map and compare using the mta link http://www.mta.info/nyct/index.html.

You will feel like being in china there seriously! I will pm you with my number and contact info for when you guys get here also look at priceline.com and http://www.nycvisit.com/ for official nyc tourism info also one for china town

Hi guys!

I lived in NY in Hostelling International (www.hinewyork.org). It's located on 891 Amsterdam Avenue. I can't say that it's good, but if you just need to sleep there, guys, it's ok. I can't tell you about the price, because my company paid for my staying. Anyway, try to call there (+1 212 932 2300), maybe you will like it.

If you have a ny questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Good luck, guys!
