There were many truly bad incidents happend to my life lately,so my parents suggested me to go and release birds,turtles and fishes away for merri.. For relieving myself into good fate of life ..

That's something to do with Buddist religion in Thailand.. As you know that those birds, turtles and fishes are not coming up from your shower room, so what we had to do is buying them from a market..

Unfortunately, what Buddha sake.. We got no time to go to market.. So we headed to temple directly..I saw many vendors selling kinda those animal in front of that temple.. Mama wanna brought some turtles and birds for me to release them away.. I looked into the cages.. Those birds look so starved.. Some has not much fur left.. They are going to be decreased.. Not different with those turtles.. I thought I saw some of them " dead" already inside big bowl..

I wanted to cry.. I didnt wanna do that.. I brought them for "mom's sake" to makes her feel better that nothing gonna harm my life.. I brought 3 turtles and some birds..

I relieved them away.. Those turtles wont moved.. Those birds tried to fly away but they were to tried and strave to fly..

Not far away from there , I saw some children try to catch them back to the cages..Those birds try best to fly but they couldn't !! And those turtles wouldn't move !! They didnt !! Those animals may know that they will never ever get life back again anyway !!yes, those childs catch them back again to cages... let's make business again and again...

.. That remind me about one advertisment long time ago " Most of that birds usually die 75% after they got their freedom.. Would you like to call this as " merrit" or "sin"....

I can tell you.. I had a bad day after I relieve my bad fate away by giving freedom life.. Is that freedom?? I dont think I can sleep well tonite.. I know my mom will sleep well.. I know...

What about buying some bread or food and putting it in the cages for the birds to eat first... Give them some strength... And some water and let them go away from the temple area and the kids... I share your sorrow about this. I have seen it so often and makes me feel so sad... I think better you give some money to the klong orphans or another group that takes care of people is better... By doing that you might make them free of the troubles that they have in their lives...

Get, don't take the sins of the others on your shoulders. You wanted to make merit the right way and this is great. You should be proud of you. Unfortunately, it happened that those who sold you turtles and birds care more about their own pocket than the health of those poor animals they sell and it hurt you. This goes a long way in showing the beautiful quality of your heart. Your feeling bad about the condition of these poor animals is very touching, but don't make their condition your sin. You played no role whatsoever in this.

As for "buying is killing", I guess you are right ! And I don't know what to say to you. If we keep buying birds and turtles from these types of people, they will keep on not treating them right. What is there to do ? Stop making merit this way ? What difference can one person make ?

As for the girls in Nana and other places, contrary to the birds, they have a choice, albeit a difficult one in certain cases. They can decide to stop selling themselves. They may suffer materially from the consequences, but it is their choice.

I also do that a lot of time. I too are aware that those birds would probably be capture again. But for a short moment, they experienced freedom. Maybe for that moment it was worth it.

Get, Just donate some funds to the Thai Blind Foundation. You can do this by contacting Phunapha on TF! You are right about that bird, fish, turtle merrit-market system. If you have to use a market at / on front of a temple grounds to make merrit- somthing is messed up in that process, yea? Write Phunapha. The Blind Foundation has accounts at Bangkok Bank and Krungthai. I was looking to make merrit and found this to be a good thing. Waeng will be very helpful.

Hi Get.....I saw the same sort of thing in a movie about two American girls busted for drugs in Thailand....It was called " Brokedown Palace " Excellent Movie by the way.....Anyways....These girls released a few birds and later realized that they were trained to come back to the cage....And your right, it is sad.....

But the point is.....In your heart, you felt you were doing a beautiful thing to help you feel better.....and if you felt good for even one second....then it was all worth it

Cheer up kiddo......Next time you see a bird or Turtle.....Feed them so they are strong enough to never get caught in the first place......

Get, your thoughtfulness touches my soul. i have no answers or happy sayings to give you, but knowing that there is still a person in this world with compassion like you makes me feel better.

I never bought turtles, birds or fishes to release at the temples. When I needed to do that merit I let my dad bought some fishes or turtles from the market and release them to the river or canal that they would have longer freedom lives until they'll be catched by fishermen which not so easy to be catched back coz they were very strong and moved away quickly after I released them. For bird I never release yet and I think no need to do coz there are many freedom birds flying and living around my house as we gave them food and not bothered its lifes thats enough for merit.

By the way, so sad for you na Getty you can make an excuse next time in another ways... Buddha bless you ...
