My city by the bay!

I just returned from San Francisco, the city by the bay Smile A week's stay to see my kids and grandkids during spring break. The fresh air-conditioned air was great to inhale and exhale in my lungs. Almost have forgotten that I lived there for 23 years of my life, and already over 5 years in Hawaii Laughing

San Franciso, is like no other, but has a close look of Boston too. It is a huge melting pot of all ethnic groups of great people. The food is 5Star, even eating in a small hole in the wall.......produce and foods are always fresh, and wonderful to consume....and most parts inexpensive to buy. I had a 2 and a half lb Dungess crab for dinner one night, just hot water boiled, along with some baby bok toy with Chinese black mushrooms..and it was delicious, although the crab set me back $15.00 @ $5.99 a lb.....but what the hell, it's out of season now....

I was able to get out on the tennis courts twice and hit the balls with my daughter (she had tennis in high school with her team), but she picked up the game again, and wasn't too bad, hitting the balls pass me........Laughing

I was able to also see my son and my grandkids too, even though it was a bit cooler in their part of town in the East Bay....it was so cool at night, I was unable to really go to sleep, and my nose was cold, so I dragged butt the next morning.....Frown

Was to have dinner with other old friends, but they were both under the weather.....haha, and one owes me a roast beef raincheck?

The weather is San Francisco was good, no rain and not too windy, but cool at night.......during the days, it was in the 50's-60's, but at night, it was in the middle 40's.....I arrived back to Hawaii on Thursday night, and the captain on the plane said "Honolulu was at 79F", and I was happy to hear that.........but the city by the bay should be visited by everyone, at least once........forget about the housing prices, the cost of living there is very high, just as bad as in Hawaii......

I look forward to visit the bay area again in May, when my daughter graduates from her nursing program and hopefully she will pass the California bar exam for her "RN".Laughing

And also try to be in touch with vbroker for a get together!! Wink Just wanted to share my great visit to San Francisco, the city by the bay...Smile

Hi Afook:

I hear what you're saying. I've lived here about 20 years of my life, and can say I have done a lot of growing up here. Yesterday, Sat was overcast in most places, but today is sunny and warm..even in the Excelsior and Crocker Amazon Districts (where I live). It will probably cool off quite a bit in a couple of hours. Right now I'm downtown just a few blocks from Powell Street and the cable cars (at Golden Gate University).

I see lots of tourists out today, many of them looking "lost". Reminds me of the first time I came to the city as a young airman in the Air Force. You like to play tennis, which is a good thing; I like to ride motorcycles around the city and drop in coffee and tea shops to take a breather now and then. Today is great for motorcycle riding, but I got rid of mine a couple of years ago. I was just looking at an old NightHawk the other day. I'm thinking of getting it and go riding on lovely days like this.

I agree that SF a great mix of many things, but being a person with a scientific background, I tell you there is a specter of sorts hanging over us, and that is the geophysical conditions here; there is the real threat of a devastating earthquake and a possible Tsuanmi that could drastically alter the terrain as we now know it. Sorry to rain on our parade!

Hey folks, come to SF while it's still attached to CA:-)

Once you have lived in the bay area, you know the earthquakes by the numbers......haha, I'm a survior of the big one in 1989........never will forget that day, the sf giants and oakland a's were playing the world series, or the pennant race, at 5pm on tuesday, i was on vacation for the week because my ex had just come out of surgery on monday.......she was hiding under the dining room table when i called to see if she was okay....as it turned out my office in northpoit was shut down for about 10 days, and everyone got paid for not being able to go into the office, except for me.......on vacation, what a bummer!!

I do worry about tsanami's in hawaii, as i was in north thailand (chiang mai) the day after xmas when it hit the south.......lucky!!

Glad you had a fun time in SF, it really is a magical city. I can almost imagine you there during the hippy times (almost). Hope that it wasn't too hard for you playing patriach of the family. When are you planing to introduce everyone to your thai gf?
