I saw this article on ninemsn today.......I'm staying single to be slim! I'm surpirsed that they even needed to do a survey on this.....   Twenty-two percent of brides put on an average of 9.5kg within the first year of marriage, a new survey by UK researchers has found. The study, conducted by probiotic-maker Yakult, surveyed 3000 married women and found that more than a third found it difficult to eat healthily in the first year of marriage, as they no longer had the wedding to motivate them, the UK'sDaily Mail reported. Half the women said they no longer worried about their appearance after the honeymoon was over and 42 percent said they were too relaxed with their new hubby. Twenty-one percent of the newlywed women admitted that the weight gain had caused arguments with their spouses. This follows research in the US by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, published in the journal Nature earlier this year, which found that married men and women were more than twice as likely to become obese compared to couples who weren't living together. "We're trying to find out some of the reasons why this might be happening," Dr Penny Gordon-Larsen, an associate professor of nutrition at the university, said in a media statement. "There are a number of health benefits to marriage, including decreased cigarette smoking and lower mortality. But we also see greater weight gain than in others of the same age, and greater risk of obesity." So how do you avoid the weight gain that can accompany wedded bliss? Dr Gordon-Larsen suggested that couples exercise together or take turns cooking healthy meals for each other. "When people are married, or living together, they can offer each other social support for healthy behaviors and a healthy environment," she said. "They can be good influences on each other. That may be how they can avoid the extra pounds now associated with marriage."

ANY research done in North Carolina is gonna be skewed to the heavy side! They grow em big down on the farm!! LOL Although US chicks in general continue to get larger by the year! The Bay Area in California is supposed to be a place where people live a healthy lifestyle. You would never know if you went out to the bars one night....the TV show "The Biggest Loser" has even come to the San Jose area to hold auditions for next seasons show... how sad..
