"GOD DELUSION"
My friend and I were at a coffee shop at MBK retelling a novel we’ve read .We were both misty eyed as we exchanged our views, feelings about it. Then, all of a sudden, he told me that he would buy me a book entitled “God Delusion.” So we jumped out of the coffee shop and walked hurriedly to SIAM Paragorn. When we reached the bookstore, he amusingly told me, “I will give you a gift of knowledge.” THE GIFT OF KNOWLEDGE: that’s the greeting one can see at the entrance. I just laughed.
As he picked one copy, he also pointed at some other books whose words were nothing but insulting words against MY GOD. And he muttered something and I just said “Not funny.” I am a devout Catholic, but my friend would always make fun of me for my incapacity to argue with him about religion, about Christianity. He just got so much knowledge about religion that sometimes, I would just be in awe in the way he verbalized his thoughts. Most of which were contradictions to my beliefs. As Catholics, we’re always told that debating about religion is a useless act. So, as my saving grace against his overpowering reasons, I would just say “I don’t want to talk about religion. It’s my faith that is most important for me.” I’ve just read a few pages. This book is too deep for me to handle as I’m not used to reading this kind of book. But on one of the pages, it struck me when the writer said, “Insulting a restaurant might seem trivial, compared to insulting God. But chefs and restaurateurs really exist and they have feelings to be hurt, whereas blasphemy, as the witty bumper sticker puts it, is a victimless crime.” God, for me, for some of us, does exist. But why victimless? When I read this line, I felt like a hand slapped my gentle face and a voice yelling at me, “Hey girl! Wake up. Your God doesn’t exist!” L But I appreciate his act of kindness. And I would really consider the book as a priceless gift because it’s the first book he gave me which is new, not like the other books which are hand-me-down. Hehehe! Peace dude!^-^ The book, though, tells ideas which are totally new and opposite to what I believe in, yet, it gives an awakening sight. And good timing, it’s holiday - one-month holiday. It will be a good idea to spend it with “gifts of knowledge.” And I just hope that my faith would remain strong!*-*
