Event: ThailandFriends 1st Annual Charity Event 2009
Date: Sunday, May 24th, 2009
Time: Meet 7:45am at (To Be Announced), depart 8am
Location: Boad Worradit Temple, Aang Tong Province
Purpose of the Event:
To donate money, food, stationary, clothes plus any other useful goods to the charity.
Introduction:
Boad Worradit temple is located in Aang Tong province, approximately two hours from Bangkok. It is a registered orphanage, caring for poverty-stricken children. At the moment, there are about 360 children living there. Boad Worradit provides these children with free accommodation, free food (3 meals a day), and free education from grade 1 up to grade 12. Most of the children living here come from the northern provinces of Thailand. Their parents send them here, as they themselves are unable to care for them. The orphanage provides the kids with a standard of living and the opportunity to gain an education, and hopefully the skills and knowledge to halt this cycle of desperation. If it wasn’t for charitable organizations such as Boad Worradit temple, and the people who support them, then falling into a life of crime, drugs or prostitution is a very grim, but very real possibility.
