Well, we only have 3 days available and just want to explore Laos so what are places that must see in Laos or things to do? Im looking through more informations of Vanvieng which seems like a popular destination for tourist? Seriously have no clue about Laos at all (well, as usual of me! Embarassed) So please please spare me some informations and more importantly how to get there from BKK? Fancy a train as i havent been on one since 13!!! but probably flying back... Thank you so much in advance and i will bring you back some Beer Lao!! And would like to thank people who suggested me of places and things to do in Koh Lanta on my last journal! Had an amazing time in Lanta and definitely in love with it!! PS. I would have posted some pictures only if i know how to work it out on photobucket! Embarassed

Vang Vieng is fun and freaky but if you want breathtaking scenery - go to "Si Pan Don" (Koh) in the South of Laos towards the Cambodian border - think it's Champasak Province. There are some cool islands like Don Kong or Don Det (my favourite). Strangely for a country that produces so much hydro electric power there isn't any on the islands, so it's generators and candles at night tho', but very sabei!! Enjoy.

If you only have 3 days try a morning flight to Chiang Rai, cross the border at Chiang Kong into Laos, hire a boat along the Mekong to LP, stay for 2 nights then to Vietiane for a night and back on the overnight train from Nong Khai (or from the new Laos border station from 6 March when the new cross border service starts).

Pakse and the south is also nice for a few days.

Luang prabang is a must go, fly from bkk to chiang rai. from there take the bus to the border. cross the river (border). buy your way into Laos and book a boat to luang prabang. 2 option slow and fast, i took the speedboat 6 hours to luang prabang. from luang prabang you can fly back to bkk

have fun

be careful to research what type of visa you need to have in Lao. Thai people used to be able to get a special visa, but it does allow them to travel too far from the border. Also, it used to be that you had to tell the immigration in Lao at the very beginning of your trip that you were exiting from a different city....I cannot remember all the details, but some have been very upset when they were turned back to reapply for their visa.

LOL@Jay! I aint that bad hey :P We also get out to drink beers sometimes hahaha! But who cares about hotel when there are many bushes in Laos? O_O lol!

Well, thank you for every comments! Much appreciated! Seems like Luang Prabang is popular but considering that is a bit far for my only 3 days trip so i guess i will try Vang Vieng first and keep Luang Prabang and South of Laos at other opportunity!

But where is Vang Vieng though? LOL Do i really need a visa eh???

If you only have 3 days i would suggest Luang Prabang, take the plane both ways. There are some nice restaurants and hotels along the Mae Khong river. Wangvien is in the middle between Vientienne and Luang Prabang, long ride though. Have fun :D
