Taj Mahl trip from Bangkok

Just curious if anyone could give me some information about going to see the Taj Mahl from Bangkok. I will be in Thailand next March and I would love to go to India for a couple of days to see the Taj Mahl.  After doing some research I found out that the visa will cost me about 75.00 US dollars and that I need to mail the form to the NY location. This is  because its the closest branch to me. The Taj Mahl is located in the city of Argra however I am having a hard time locating flights that go there. So I might have to book a flight to Delphi instead and then take a tour to get to Agra. If anyone has any information on what airline is good for cheap tickets, what tours are good and any other helpful information I would love to hear from you. The only airline that is not bad on prices is Jet Airways. If there isn't any time difference from Thailand and India then I am showing that is only about a 3 hour flight!

It has always been a dream of mine to see go there and I think next March I will make it a reality! Greg

yeah, you pretty much have to fly to New Delhi. Rent a car or take the train. Train is 4 or 6 hours. Can't remember. Car was supposed to take 5 hours but we had some adventure and it wound up taking a bit more. So if you take a car, don't go cheap cheap on it. lol

You can do the Taj Mahal, Agra Red Fort etc as a day trip from New Delhi.

Lots more to see in the general vicinity.

Do stay to see the sunset or spend the night and see the sunrise. It's worth it.

Good luck.

Just went to India last month. My destination was Kashmir...but Indeed, stop to Dehli and Agra for Taj Mahal.

Really nice there...but sooo hot. Hope the temperature being better now...

Not sure if Thai airway still have the promotion from BKK-Dehli. I bought only 18000 Baht round trip for 2 person.

From Dehli, you can take the train to Agra. The cost around USD8-10 which is not so bad. From train station you can take " Tuk Tuk" (I don't know how they call in India but the car is something like Tuk Tuk in Thailand") the cost is around Rp 20 to Taj.

See this belowed site from my trip in India..then you will feel tempt to go there...LOL

From my experience, you can take Air India, but sometimes it operates with Thai airways depending on the days.

Once you arrive in New Delhi, you 'd take the tour/ rent a car. If you take a train, you should be careful of pickpocketing. Some people target foreigners, and that's normal everywhere.

Try to visit Mumbai/Goa, which are not bad. Elehanta Cave is spectacular iin Mumbai.

Enjoy your trip:)

Wow thats a good price for two tickets round trip. Is that counting taxes and everything - 18000 baht? Thanks so much for the information. Was it hard communicating with people there? If I decide to take the train from Dehli to Agra will the Tuk Tuk take me there?

I afraid this promotion already finished...then the price go up to 10,000-12,000 B now :(

It's not hard to communicate with them, the hardest is how to deal with them...sooo many touts and they never let you go until they get what they want...please well prepare for this.

I always use this site to find information for my india trip. It very helpful.

You can also find more detail about visa here too.

Yes checked Airindia and Thai Airways and they want about 900.00 US dollars for two tickets. I think the cheapest so far is Jet Airways. I will have to keep my eyes open for any deals. I still have a lot of time before I will be going. Thanks again for all your help.

I will be going there in about two weeks to bring my parents there. (They will be visiting me from America. It will be their first - and last - trip to Asia, and my father insists on going to the Taj Mahal since it's "in the neighborhood".) Actually I was there already once about fifteen years ago, but I'll go again now just to bring my parents there. I would never leave them alone in a place like India!

Anyway, I booked my flight with Jet Airways, online, for just over 10,000 baht per person, round trip Bangkok-Delhi. I'm trying to organize a tour around the so-called Golden Triangle (Delhi, Jaipur, Agra). But it's not easy finding a suitable one. I looked at the reviews of many hotels on Tripadvisor.com, and it seems like most of the hotels in India are horrible. If I can't find a suitable tour, I'll just do it myself - taking a train (which, incidentally, can be booked online) and arranging the hotels on the spot. (It's generally not a good idea to give money to an Indian before the service is rendered. They are very tricky people.)

As Chibijung said, that "indiamike" website is full of very useful information. Also, the touts can be pretty overwhelming. Relentless even. Every time I leave India, I swear that I'll never go back again. And I wouldn't be going back this time if not for my parents.

Regarding the visa: If you apply in Bangkok, you can pick up your passport with visa on the fifth working day after you apply. I applied last Monday and will pick mine up this Friday. The cost for the visa is: 1,700 baht (for the visa) + 400 baht (extra charge for foreigners for a "reference", whatever the hell that's suppose to mean - really just another way to suck money out of us) + 482 baht (service charge - for the visa processing center) + 35 baht (for a cashiers check that they will sell you because they can't give cash to the embassy - by the way, this whole visa process is subcontracted out to a visa processing company on the 15th floor of the Ban Chang Glas House on the corner of Sukhumvit 25) + 1,000 baht (surcharge for Americans). Total cost (for Americans): 3,617 baht, which is about $106 at the current exchange rate.

You will also need two photocopies of the main page of your passport. (It's cheaper to make the copies outside, where it costs about one baht per copy as opposed to 6 baht per copy at the visa processing center.)

I guess applying for the visa is meant to prepare you for your visit to India as I felt like they were trying to suck money out of me at every turn. The most galling was having to pay a fee for paying cash for the visa.

When I get back, I'll be glad to tell you how things went.

Agra don't have international airpport,so not direct international flights.Your best option will be get down at Delhi and then you can either take domestic flight from Delhi to Agra(Air India,Indian airlines,Jet airways, sahara airlines ,Deccan ) or can rent a taxi(just around 5 hours by road. Many hotels in Delhi provide daily tours to Agra city for tourists to see Tajmahal.

As told above by "Sukhumvit_Farang" you can apply for indian visa at Indian Embassy on Sukhumvit Soi 23 in Bangkok too.

Indeed, Most of Hotel in india is not that good. Better to pay a bit more for cleanness and safe. I stayed at Hans New Delhi (around Connaught Place) The cost is 5000 something / room / 3 persons including Breakfast.
