Geee 2 Posted August 1, 2009 Report Share it goes back to the sixties, people with money went on holiday to the sunny countries, so tanned was equal to rich. Quote Link to comment
andon 0 Posted August 1, 2009 Report Share That color means exotic for them, that's why. And I would not say all europeans, but for thais Europe mostly means maybe UK, Germany, Denmark and so on (you know, very white people)... there's much more down in the south like France, Italy, Spain and Portugal (Latin Europe) that even there are many people in those countries who look at tanned skin as exotic, for many others is not as they are very related to latin american people who has that cute little color, or like we say down here "colorsito" same same as you... funky_house 6 Posted August 1, 2009 Report Share SweetieBabie: Once you go black, you can't go back. I beg to differ. No matter how long I spend in the sun, or how black I get,(well dark), a few weeks back under English clouds, and I am back to being as white as ever. :-) Then I have to wait until the next time to do it all over again. SweetieBabie 5 Posted August 1, 2009 Report Share Posted by funky_house [ 1 August 2009 | 2:28PM ] Then I have to wait until the next time to do it all over again. >>>>> Exactly, that's a good thing about being fair. You can change dark to light and light to dark whenever you want to Quote Link to comment
Guest Posted August 1, 2009 Report Share Its probably like Gee and andon said. In european countries most people are white, being tanned stand you out of the crowd. But it used to be different before, when being tanned was considered a bad thing because it meant you probably worked outside a lot (like farmers and other jobs that were considered low status). Toma, maybe this is the answer to your question, no one wants to look like (in lack of a better word) a laborer. Personally I like a healthy tan, not the leather couch look (sorry swedes, you've overdone it), because white skin just looks... unhealthy, it looks like the person is sick. Quote Link to comment

SweetieBabie 5 Posted August 1, 2009 Report Share Posted by iamsamtoo [ 1 August 2009 | 3:43PM ] Are you trying to say you wanna look UK white? >>> I wanna look white, I wanna look dark, I can be any color that i want, whenever i want to. Go tanned in t he summer, go pale in the winter. That's how i roll. Quote Link to comment
funky_house 6 Posted August 1, 2009 Report Share iamsamtoo...Personally I like a healthy tan, not the leather couch look (sorry swedes, you've overdone it), because white skin just looks... unhealthy, it looks like the person is sick. That is exactly why people try and get a tan. They have been led to believe that tan means healthy. Its just a change in outlook. In earlier times, it used to be thought of as a sign of being of lower class, because of being an outdoor worker. Is it still like that in Thailand? A lot of people from northern climes have almost lost the tendency to tan because its not needed so much. Another thing: Because the sun promotes the production of vitamin D, when certain populations from parts of Asia (indian sub-continent) first came to live in Northern Europe, their young children used to suffer from Rickets. This is a bone disease caused by a deficiency in vitamin D. The reason was, although their diet was deficient in vitamin D, the sun gave them what they needed in Asia. When they came here, the sun is much weaker. We in Northern Europe get ours from our diet, so don't have that problem. although it was a disease of the poor as well. Quote Link to comment
PeterH61 1 Posted August 1, 2009 Report Share Not interested in what colour a person's skin is, I feel what they are like on the inside is much more important. Quote Link to comment
