paulgh3rd 0 Posted August 14, 2009 Report Share not many people become a legend and live to that age... I'm only sad I never got to see him play since I've been in NY and now never will. Quote Link to comment
PeeMarc 1 Posted August 14, 2009 Report Share to be honest, ive always prefer the Strat. But this guy was a true talent legend by any measure. RIP Quote Link to comment
tilaceer 0 Posted August 14, 2009 Report Share Great musical pioneer and entertainer, along with his wife Mary Ford. Lent his name to a nice instrument, and glad to say I have his signature on my '72 Deluxe Gold Top. 94 is a pretty good innings.. Quote Link to comment
eagle 1 Posted August 14, 2009 Report Share My first guitar that was mine not borrowed was a 71 deluxe goldtop. I still have a 77 tobacco sunburst standard, Sweet neck on a les paul !! Quote Link to comment
Neo 1 Posted August 14, 2009 Report Share My first electric guitar was a knockoff Les Paul sunburst. Couldn't afford the real thing at 16. He won't be forgotten, that's for sure. Quote Link to comment
velvet 0 Posted August 14, 2009 Report Share Les paul was an amazing musician, i play a tenor saxophone, but started with guitar, i love the old vintage gibson hollow bodies, but i own a strat because its more affordable. I actually had no idea he was still alive, and im so sorry to admit that, he is a true virtuoso, and un-paralleled technique.... i love those beautiful glissando's... rip Quote Link to comment
Rob 1 Posted August 14, 2009 Report Share He took adversity and made a second career out of it. Back in the '80's he had crippling arthritis in his hands. His doctor recommended more guitar playing as therapy. So he took on a weekly gig at Fat Tuesday's at 2nd Ave. and 17th Street. He became a musician's musician, developing a following among the modern guitar greats who came to see him perform. Like Segovia, he kept performing well into his 90's, almost up until the time of his passing. I'm sure Stevie Ray will be happy to welcome Les to the big jam in the sky. Quote Link to comment
