I'm not sure if many people have paid attention to this, but the number of honey producing bees has dramatically declined. The last few years experts and scientist have continously come up theories but nothing with any basis in the basic scientific method and were more conjecture. A lot of people have downplayed the importance of the reduction in bees because of the lack of understanding to their basic importance in pollenation. The growing attention that has been drawing to this is becoming international since it's not just one country as the below story from India shows.   Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 31 (PTI) Mobile towers are posing a threat to honey bees in Kerala withe electromagnetic radiation from mobile towers and cell phones having the potential to kill worker bees that go out to collect nectar from flowers, says a study.

A plunge in beehive population has been reported from different parts of Kerala and if measures are not taken to check mushrooming of mobile powers, bees could be wiped out from Kerala within a decade, environmentalist and Reader in Zoology, Dr Sainudeen Pattazhy says in his study.

In one of his experiments he found that when a mobile phone was kept near a beehive it resulted in collapse of the colony in five to 10 days, with the worker bees failing to return home, leaving the hives with just queens, eggs and hive-bound immature bees.

This seems to be the first post I have read from you that makes some sense.

The loss of bees all around the world is of a huge concern given how many crops may not be subsequently pollinated. I think the influnence of pesticides and chemicals on the bees still may be the most influential factor.

I think I read somewhere, that without bee to pollinate plants, mankind would be extinct within four years.

I doubt it would be that quickly, but without bees, our time on this planet would not be long.
