Why go back at all? Why not have a dual boot with XP-Vista and 7? I think 7 is very good indeed but while vista is very bad overall it does have some very good thing built in = moviemaker is very good whereas 7 does not have it and the version you download is not very good.

Most hardrives are over 80 GB now so no reason not to just partition the drive and have multiple OS on your Computer. Just my few cents worth.

A few weeks, back IBM and Canonical (the lead sponsor of Ubuntu Linux) announced a plan to deliver Linux desktops and software to Africa. At the time, I questioned why the offer wasn't being made available in the U.S.

That changes today as IBM and Canonical are now announcing the launch of Linux and cloud-based desktop software in the U.S.

The effort was originally announced more than a year ago, in August of 2008 as the Microsoft-Free PC effort. The basic idea is to have an Linux OS, with IBM smart client applications called Open Collaboration Client Solution software (OCCS)(Lotus Symphony and Notes) for enterprise apps.

The solution that has now been announced for the U.S, leverages the IBM Client for Smart Work which includes the same set of IBM's collaboration software. As to why IBM is marketing the solution to the U.S now, the answer is simple: Windows 7.

IBM and Canonical in their press release have stated that the cost of migrating to Windows 7 will be as much as $2,000 for most PC users, with hardware accounting for much of the expense. Linux (and specifically Ubuntu) together with the IBM software is according to the two partners, cheaper to deploy.

"If a company is a 'Windows shop,' at some point it will need to evaluate the significant costs of migrating its base to Microsoft's next desktop and bolstering its defenses against virus and other attacks," said Bob Picciano, general manager, IBM Lotus in a statement. "American businesses have asked for a compelling alternative and today we are delivering IBM Client for Smart Work in the U.S."

I've been using it for a few months and I really like it. Haven't had any problems/compatibility issues, installs like a dream, software runs perfectly and it's got some nice new features. Pretty happy.

Why would anyone want to pay for a bad OS when they can get a good one for free?

And who would want to risk their data, time, and bank accounts by using Windows in the first place?

If i had to run windows i would certainly upgrade to 7 just to be more secure.. XP has many holes and exploits it's a danger to all that use it. 7 seems to be a nice product and certainly a worthy upgrade if you have a newish machine.

Apple made a great move with the iPhone winning droves of people over to the easy of use.

I have been looking for a tablet that is able to do all I need, lightweight, wireless and easy-to-use but due to the sluggish and outdated Windows OS, none of the PC-models really caught on.

Mac only needs to put its iPhone in a bigger form factor, add some extra battery and processing power and the first version of their tablet should be ready to ship. It already has a great user interface, touchscreen and has thousands of developers that will build interesting applets to sit on your tablet. I can hardly wait.
