Schwarzenegger drops F-bomb in veto message to lawmaker

Posted: 12:24 PM, October 28, 2009Arnold Schwarzenegger dropped a subtle f-bomb on a bitter political rival in a  payback for the lawmaker’s recent heckling the California governator. The Golden State’s leading man has Sacramento buzzing with his written explanation of vetoing a finance bill sponsored by Assemblyman Tom Ammiano (D-San Francisco). Down the left-hand margin of Schwarzenegger’s open correspondence, the first words of successive lines were: "For," "unnecessary," "care," "kicks," "Yet," "overwhelmingly" and "unnecessary." The first letters, of course, spell out a vulgar message, though Schwarzenegger insisted it wasn’t intentional. "It’s just a weird, strange coincidence," the governor’s rep Aaron McLear said today. "We do so many vetoes, that I suppose something like this is bound to happen." McLear said his boss writes letters on every bill he vetoes and past letters have included find-a-word coincidences that spell out "poet," "ear" and "soap." So what are the chances of this being a pure coincidence? About 1 in 8 billion, according to one mathematician. "If you were to give all 26 letters equal weight, then the chances of them coming up in an exact sequence seven times, that’s about 1 in 8 billion," said Columbia University math professor Aaron Lauda. "I suppose you could cite the laws of large numbers ... if you think about all the letters he’s written, I guess this could be [a coincidence]." This letter, like all Schwarzenegger’s veto messages, are posted as a PDF file on governor’s Web site. Assemblyman Ammiano’s camp didn’t buy the governor’s explanation and gave "The Terminator" underhanded praise for clever word play in the Oct. 12 letter. Schwarzenegger and Ammiano — a Montclair, N.J., native and Seton Hall grad — have been at odds for years, over the governor’s refusal to support gay marriage. The rivalry exploded on Oct. 7 when Schwarzenegger crashed a Democratic Party dinner in San Francisco. Ammiano, a former standup comic who had a bit role in the Oscar-nominated flick "Milk," heckled Schwarzenegger "You lie!" and demanded he "kiss my gay a--!" "They probably think they are even now," Ammiano told The San Francisco Chronicle. "I think it was very creative, and it’s time to bury the hatchet. I’m not interested in prolonging it." The vetoed measure — AB 1176, which passed both the Assembly and Senate unanimously — would have granted the Port of San Francisco expanded financing power to redevelop a former shipyard. McLear said the governor has been cranking out a huge number of veto letters in recent years. Schwarzenngger has vetoed 35.1 percent of bills before him this year and 27.5 percent of legislature-backed proposals last year — both the highest one-year veto marks in state history, McLear said.arnold134947--300x450.jpg
