Music 4 Kids Blues & Jazz Festival 2004

-----------------------------------------------

This Friday and Saturday (the 12th and 13th, November) Tokyo Joe's Blues Bar and Soi Dog Blues Band are jointly organizing and hosting what will be the first annual Music 4 Kids Blues & Jazz Festival to benefit children affected by HIV/AIDS. Apart from a weekend of cool jazz and hot blues, the Music 4 Kids benefit is dedicated to providing quality of life enhancing donations to those children and their families living with the realities of HIV/AIDS here in Thailand. Proceeds will be donated to Father Joe's Mercy Center in Klong Toey.

This year's Music 4 Kids two-day mini festival will feature two nights of non-stop music, showcasing eight of Bangkok's premier blues and jazz bands, including several solo artists, all of whom are donating their time and considerable skills to the Music 4 Kids Blues & Jazz Festival effort, raising much needed funding in support of those less fortunate.

Featured artists will include Bangkok blues stalwarts Big Jeff T & Soi Dog Blues Band and Cannonball with EZY Nolan, soloist Adam Ryan performing tracks from his successful CD, "Live at Tokyo Joe's", L"G" King & Savannah, as well as Golf and the boys from T-Bone on the roster with their improv jazz outfit, Stone Head. The one and only Dr. Blues, the inimitable ROL Trio and the newly grown Jungle round out this powerful assembly of some of the city's blues and jazz heavyweights.

The live music will start at 19.00 on both nights, with regulars from Tokyo Joe's Sunday Jam forming a loose group in support of this event. The music schedule for the weekend is as follows:

Friday November 12.

19.00 Sunday Jam Band

20.00 Dr. Blues

21.00 ROL Trio

22.00 Savannah

23.00 Cannonball

Saturday November 13.

19.00 Sunday Jam Band

20.00 Adam Ryan

21.00 Stone Head

22.00 Jungle

23.00 Soi Dog Blues Band

=======================================

There, if you read this, try and get down there. A great cause.

Tokyo Joe's Blues Bar is in Sivaporn Plaza, Sukhumvit Soi 24, opposite the Ariston Hotel.

Cheers

Robbie, it's in the little Japanese plaza (there's a few hostess bars, and a few restaurants) opposite the Ariston Hotel. About 3 minutes walk from Prom Phong BTS station...

It would be really great to get a good turnout. We did a similar thing about 5 months ago in March as part of the One World Beat Charity Music Festival (www.oneworldbeat.org) which we also organized with Tokyo Joe's and with the support of the Bangkok Post's R.T., it was clear that there exists a community here in Bangkok that is happy to come out and make generous donations in exchange for an evening of quality live music. Due to the support of our bands and patrons, we were able to raise over 40,000 Baht in just two nights to help the children through Keep a Child Alive (www.keepachildalive.org) and Father Joe's Mercy Center with that event.

Hey, tonight was good... a lot of money raised,... will give the complete figures lately - (One guy took the mic and offered to double what the crowd could produce in that moment which after much persuasion came to 11,000 baht.. so that guy then happily forked out 22,000. Well done!).

Two TF'ers made it that I noticed.. maybe some more turned up that I missed.. but many thanks go to WestofSun and Abzolutej for their support.. The turnout in general was grea and it's not over yet.. The music starts again tomorrow night (Saturday the 13th), my band's not on but many good acts are including the Soi Dog Blues Band and Stone Head. Get down there if you can and help support this good cause!!
