But the collection at 7-11 is very limited, better go to a phone shop and ask for a sim card with a validity of one year. It is not more expensive, sometimes even cheaper, and at the end of the month, you dont loose the rest of the value

u can get one at lots of places including 7/11.

foreigners used to have show their passport, but not sure if that's still the case. probably better to bring some form of photo ID just to be on the safe side.

I've never had to show my passport. I usually just buy a 1-2-Call SIM card from AIS. They last three months, and if you have over a certain amount on the card it extends it to six months.

As you exit Customs at Suvarnabhumi, and pass through all those people holding name cards, turn right.

About 50 metres there are DTAC and AIS kiosks, where you can buy SIM cards and credit. Also they can help with setting up all messages in English, and stuff like that.

I don't know about expiring after 30 days. I've purchased SIM cards from 7-11 and they're valid as long as the account is active (called placed, money loaded). The bad part is if you go back home and can't reload or use your phone for more than 90 days they usually deactivate the SIM and you have to buy a new one when you return (which means a new phone number . . . pain in the butt).

I like DTAC (Happy) because in my experience they annoy you with much less spam than any of the other networks.

1-2-call used to send me unsolicited texts almost every hour :(

I usually go to the DTAC counter when I arrive at the airport and buy a Happy SIM card for 99 Baht, this has either a 30 day or 60 day limit on it (I cant remember which) but it can be extended up to 1 year. It also allows international calls to be made. The staff there will even install your SIM card in your phone, top it up with your desired amont of credit, make sure it is all working and answer any questions you may have before you leave the counter.

Its all very simple, takes less than 5 minutes, no need for passport or anything else to be shown, and it works for me :-)

Buy DTAC Prepaid and ask DTAC shop girls to change your tariff to SIMPle. 1 baht/min first 90 days, 2 baht/min later, validity will be extended for 365 days after each refill regardless of amount - as low as 50 baht will be enough to keep your mobile no yours :). I keep my thai mobile no for 2 years, thanks for extended validity.
