LED (LCDs cousin) TV is the way to go. Prices are steep atm. Plasma's and LCD's are selling at affoardable prices nowadays. I'm yet to see a projector that has made me say "$hit this is good". 3D TV is out later this year, but won't be well supported for another few years.

If you are planning on making a Cinema room, I would definitely go for the Projector set up.

I can provide you with more info on the subject if needed.

It requires that you have a room with minimal light though. That is the main key.

I have built my own cinema at home, and very satisfied with using projector.

The better half of elegant agrees with beej. Projectors are great for football and movies. Really though, just to watch thai soaps while you eat somtam, the LCD/plasma is more convenient and plenty big enough with the poor broadcast quality of ubc.

get the normal tv first, then think about projectors if you really watch a lot of sport/movies and are willing to pay 1000b plus for a blueray movie...

LCD easily, colours are very staurated on projectors. And unless you are thinking of running your own cinema stick with an LCD, as carz said they are cheap(ish). If you have a high budget look at Samsung Series 8 TVs, stunning quality. Saw one in a shop in HK, was standing there in amazement for about 10mins.

Projector tvs aren't HD. You want to get a flat screen tv with at least 720p HD, but preferably 1080p HD. Doesn't matter whether plasma, or lcd, or led.

just make sure it is HD (high definition).

As amny have said--- LCD--- great definition; long lifetime now;

and the viewing angle is very wide; plus the are not affected as much

by light and reflection --- and thin (space saving) --hang on the wall

(or over ypur bed! :)) )

50'' LCD@120hz for a tv.A good DLP home theater projector with screen material is great.I have an Infocus X2 in my theater, and a 50'' Panasonic vira plasma in my tv room.I do not know how far you are willing to go for that movie theater experience, but buying one part at a time is ok. Just do not buy a cheap ass combo surround sound system with little speakers.Get a good amp with a 250watt or higher front,or down firing sub-woofer(i prefer down to feel the bass more).good acoustics help as well, there is nothing worse than vibrating, and rattling windows.

My system consists of: projector/124'' screen;5.1 amp;HTPC that i built, but not needed;multi directional satellite speaker system with 350 front firing, and 250watt down firing D-box;ps3 for blue-ray,surfing,streaming Divix, ans gaming.

Do not ever get a 720p tv they are the lowest end, bare minimum for HD,and look terrible compared to 1080p.They are cheap, and you get what you pay for.480i looks like crap, is blocky, and 720p has a way too slow refresh rate leaving pixel trails on fast moving scenes.

ps Projector tv's are hd if you buy one,and they produce a pretty good picture if it is a crt.I have a 61'' Rca scenium 1080i crt projection tv collecting dust in my storage room.it is really good for HD, but when I brought my plasma home for the bedroom there was no comparison so it ended up staying in the tv room.

sorry for the long reply, but i like my movies

if you got the bucks yeah, sharp aquis led tv is the ****.stay away from samsung people buy them by the truck load, because they are cheap, and customers love it when i come to their house for HD complaints, and I have to tell them they bought a $400 hunk of junk.Good quality, inexpensive brands, sony,lg,and belive it or not sanyo makes a great HDTV.more expensive ones are the Panasonics, and LED tv's.

if you're gonna get a projector, pm me.. I've done all the research about what's good and can tell you which model to buy exactly. Dont forget that a 'lamp' alone will cost you around 10,000baht. The lamp needs to be changed after certain amount of usage. You also have to look out for the 'noise' that the projector makes, the quieter the better. You will also need a sound system to connect with the projector to make it perfect.
