Not mindlessly supporting Obama here but as a former military guy what Danno says is absolutely correct. Part of being in the military has nothing to do with your experience. You follow orders. And you follow orders regardless of your own personal feelings.

Can you imagine if some private or a squad leader decided not to storm this or that hill because he didn't think the objective was worth it? Part of being in the military is following orders you don't agree with. Or as we used to say when given what we considered a dumb mission "Ours is not to wonder why. Ours is to do or die."

To have a top level general openly questioning orders in a major media publication destroys the morale of the troops below him because if he's allowed to question orders then those below him should feel free to question orders as well.

He did the honorable thing and resigned. There was no way Obama could keep him in leadership even if he was willing to overlook what happened.

One thing that the US Military and government is very strong on (is tradition....)

these guys know how far they can step they also know the unseen line that not to cross over..

including Joe the Heckler..Another great General before him MacArthur also thought his britches was bigger than the Commander and Chief and he suffered the same fate. I think this guy is an excellent outstanding General...

But....Tradition will not be broken and sufficed... 4 no 1
