i have an idea to buy a higher quality one... wish i could make it funnier...

he, my friend, is about to buy Panasonic GF1 (medium size) or LX 5 (small size)... and either mentioned about Canon G11

Wrong, you can have small size, and quality. You might consider the new Fuji F300EXR. It has features that none of the cameras you listed have. It is the best low light small camera made. That means you can take pictures inside a room, and you don't have to use flash, but you still get great pictures. It has a high dynamic range feature. It takes 2 pictures at once, one exposed for the highlights, and one exposed for the shadows, then puts them together so you get a picture more like your eye sees. It also has sweep panorama, meaning you hold down the shutter button, pan the camera as far as 360 degrees, and it stitches together a panorama picture. You don't have to keep taking pictures like those listed, as you pan around, you just hold down the button. It also has 15x optical zoom 24mm-360mm. Double image stabalization. It will take 720p high definition video. It's just a little bit smaller than the LX5. You should consider this camera before you make a choice.

The G11 is a good camera, but it is heavy like a brick for a small camera, and above iso400 it gets a lot of noise. You can also look up the specifications for all cameras on the site I listed. Compare them all yourself.

A friend is using G11, and I am dying to get one myself. I was told that Canon S90 has exactly the same feature just that it's a compact camera. The website that koolbreez recommended is pretty good, although I don't understand everything listed there!

My mom got a Canon Ixus with the touch screen.(not sure of the exact model) It has a few cool features like fish eye, miniature effect, etc. I have stolen it from her and playing around with it at the moment.

I am currently putting my new camera project on hold. If you have already made a decision, do share. I might take your choice of camera into consideration as well. ^_^

I have G11 and it also can do a panorama. Fuji is only good for film product but a camera. Lumix is also good because they use Leica lens. But I myself like analog more than digital ones even I am still suck at light measuring....

I go for lumix lx3

good for photoes and video

especially video quality G11 can't beat LX3 at all.

I still can't see LX5 in thailand even LX3 maybe u have to wait about a week to get it.

This was a journal i did for some sample for Lumix

bought Lumix for months but didn't have much chance to work on it though :( so lazy

if u buy it, should we go out to take pics together? I want a model :)

Lumix serie is good (it is my 3rd one from LX1 to FZ7). Pay attention to take wide angle one and at least 10X zoom.

Leica lens is really great. Take good shock proof box, you can fix on pant belt, and it will be wit you all time whan travelling or hiking.

it would be doubtful you could tell them apart at this level.. You would not be disappointed with either of them. Although to my eye the Lumix optics shine more than Canons, but you wouldn't zoom, compare and obsess like i do.

Use this website to do a side-by-side of any model camera:

@Andy: Have you seen video through an SLR lately? Many movie studios have adopted higher end SLR cams with good optics as location alternatives to bulky $50,000 movie cams.

Have a look at Canon s95, and Canon Ixus HS1000, for two slightly different, but higher range small cameras. The HS1000 is a bit bigger than the S95, but shoots 1080p video.

We know you like your belly dancing videos AAAum. :-).

This week I went out and bought the Canon 550D. The point and shoots are trying to get as advanced as the DLRs but they are approaching the same price . . . they aren't getting the same quality.
