Faux-So Girls

The other night Ked and I were out grabbing a bite to eat and playing some pool when in walk two girls who are obviously trying to make an entrance. They've got the (real) designer duds, the expensive shoes, hair perfectly coiffed, etc.

Before they could even begin playing pool they both had their cameras out and were asking the staff to take pictures of them playing pool.

We were still eating and my back was to them but I could hear the unmistakable squealing of girls trying to draw attention to themselves. You probably have heard it before. It's a laugh that is way too loud and over something hardly worthy of such an outburst.

In these girl's case it was every missed shot had them laughing hysterically, making pouty faces, making entirely staged and exaggerated movements.

Like I said my back was to them but they have a few mirrors in the place so I actually got a better view because I could see them when they thought nobody was looking. I could see their eyes scan the room to see if their latest antics had drawn any attention.

Unfortunately for them, it was a quiet night in the old pool hall and most of the people there were with someone or too busy talking amongst themselves to give the girls much attention.

So one girl quit playing and then walked out into a spot where she could be seen by everyone else in the place and started texting away. Her friend was left to play against one of the staff and after every shot he would walk over to see what her friend was doing and strike a model pose. She couldn't have possibly looked more mechanical.

Again, with my back to them I could watch them watching the pool hall seeing if they were "impressing" anyone.

Ked and I hadn't really talked about them other than I would occasionally cringe when they shouted. She looked at me and said "Maybe they're just having a fun night out but if they're really like that, I feel sorry for them."

I couldn't agree more.

So, you saw two girls walk in wearing the (real) designer duds, the expensive shoes, hair perfectly coiffed, etc, then saw them take their cameras out and ask the staff to take pictures of them playing pool. Your back was to them but you could hear them laughing hysterically trying to draw attention to themselves, when they missed shots. Saw them making pouty faces and entirely staged and exaggerated movements when, as you said your back was to them. Looking through the few mirrors, you got a better view because you could see them when they thought nobody was looking, and could see their eyes scan the room to see if their latest antics had drawn any attention and saw one girl quit playing and walk into a spot where she could be seen by everyone and started texting away. And, with your back to them you could watch them watching the pool hall seeing if they were "impressing" anyone.

It must have been a real strain to pay them so little heed.

It's not that uncommon Mr. Bill. As you know, my job is to people watch. I see that sort of behavior quite often... and not just from women. However, the episode you're speaking about does sound a bit more over-the-top than usual. The more interesting question is, "why were they looking for attention?"
