My boss came to me today and asked me to do this certain task. It requires attention to detail apparently. After this he ask me "Are you happy doing the role you do?." I said yes but he said that if I wasn't I could either talk to him or the deputy Line Mangar. Seeing as he is the big boss where I work I was a little surprised.

Hmmmmmmmmm kinda good to have the option to be able to change roles but then again, maybe I will end up doing more and being more stressed. Hmmmmmmmm decisions decisions :D

What do you guys think??

From my experience, I had many opportunities to get the role change within my company about 3 times. Yes, it's quite difficult to make a dicision at first time. However, I know that it's you not anybody who knows it's good or not for you. Anyway, good luck for any roles you will take ^_^

Yeah, really depends on whether you are kinda happy with your current job or absolutely love it. And what would the new job be? Would you like that one even more?

Hmmm, I interpret this totally different. I don't see it as a positive. Aparently something has happened to make your boss question whether you are happy, or not, with strong impressions on his part that you are not happy just by his suggestion that you talk to the line boss if you aren't comfortable talking to him.

His response could be triggered by the quality of work you are doing, or from your response to the work assignments. I don't see this as a positive though, and if I was you I would talk with him to find out exactly why he has that opinion.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm it don't think he meant it like that. I think it was most so that fact if I was bored or satisfied with my job. To tell u the truth, the average person at my work isn't exactly how should I.................multi skilled. So yeah, I think he knows I am capable of more. I think thats what he was getting at :)

@JerseyCI - So we've to find the best of our strong point and develop it. However, keep being a multi skilled staff for your own benefit and use it to support your storng point. You're a young guy and you've time to find it out. Enjoy learning ^^

I always smile to everybody and myself and thanks for your nice compliment to my smiley face and cheeks ^_~

If that is the case then let me give you something to think about that could affect any decision you are about to make.

First it is always good to be upwardly mobile, meaning try to advance as far as you can in the company you work for. This will better your job skills, and keep you from getting bored doing the same thing day in, and day out.

It is a double edged sword though. The higher up in responsibility you get in a company, the more your job is on the line every single day. If there is downsizing in the company you will be let go because of seniority. If you stay doing what you are doing, you gain seniority, and have a safer job if there ever are layoffs.

If you move up in responsibility then it is you that answers for any problem, or fault, and with this goes the insecurity in keeping your job. Your employees can screw up, and cost you your job as an example of an extreme situation if you move up in resposibility.

The closer you get to the top the more vulnerable you are. If you can handle this kind of pressure then move up, but understand what taking on more responsibility within your company could cost you. Don't necessarily think other people aren't capable of multi-tasking, they just might not want the responsibility that goes with it.
