Once again when it comes to US and Israel the tail wags the dog !!!

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/politics/netanyahu-shoots-down-obamarsquos-peace-plan-at-the-white-house-2287180.html

The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, publicly and unabashedly berated President Barack Obama yesterday for suggesting in a speech on Thursday that his country's 1967 borders should be the basis of a peace agreement with the Palestinians. Those lines, he forcefully asserted, would make his nation "indefensible".

Any artifice of unity between the leaders evaporated when they came before the television cameras at the White House to report on their talks. In his statement, Mr Obama did not actually mention the 1967 borders. But the Israeli leader followed with a passionate denunciation of the proposal. Israel and he wanted peace, he said, but not one that would not endure. In his agitation, he spoke directly to Mr Obama as if the cameras weren't there.

Obama did mention the 1967 borders. He's the first President to actually do it. Bush hinted at them, but Obama did mention them.

The only thing that would be a security risk for Israel are the illegal settlements they built in the occupied territories.

The situation with Israel is changing. It is becoming too clear that Israel also wants to wipe the Palestinians off the face of the Earth, just as they, in a fundimental way, want to do to Israel. There will never be any peace when religious differences are the basis for the fighting. How many hundreds of years has it been going on now?

Kind of reminds me of the Thai occupation of 3 provinces in the deep South some 300 years ago, then refusing to give them back to the people they belong to. Some might say religion isn't involved in that despute, but those revolting to get them back, in a violent way, happen to follow only one religious belief.

1994 they have been close to an agreement - Jordan signed the peace agreement and the Oslo papers seemed to be promising. I really want to get hold of this idiot who shot Rabin, because he was the integrative figure for peace in this region. Peres unfortunately, as brilliant as he was, never had the charisma to move the Israeli masses and always had to rely on Rabin to get his (excellent) ideas forwarded. This is how a great dream died.

Your analysis is right on. Unfortunately, there will be no one like Rabin for the next 50 years to secure peace in the region. With the absence of peace, the Islamic fundamentalists will use the ongoing war as a valid reason for Jihad against the West and in particular against the USA; Everyone loses.
