How can I help you?

Today I deleted someone from my FB friends list after I read my sister’s email. .. “...She is very red. Be aware of what you say........... " Still, I feel a bit guilty that I unfriend her. She was my sister’s best friend and I know her for more than 30 years. I think I lie when I say I can be friend with people who have different opinion on politics.

After that, I searched for those red posts on facebook, out of curiosity. I found what I was looking for, and more.

The above picture is just an example of many posts I found on FB. A Thai girl commented on the election result. She commented on how education and economy effected the result and on YL who is inexperienced in politic. Her comment was normal and any semi decent person would agree on that. The red wing copied her wall and posted it on their group and they trashed her with nasty language. None seemed to be reasonable at all.

It made me think, what if, PT didn’t win the election? What will happen to Thailand? Will we all kill each other? Maybe it’s a good thing that PT won after all, for at least Thailand can be peaceful for a short while.

How can you talk to this kind of people? They didn’t seem to listen. If I mention the words “uneducated†and “poor†just in general meaning in front of them, they might run me down with a bus.

And the worst part is.. they are so many of them. Dear Thailand… how can I help you?

It all goes back to that thread on the Thai IQ and education. Critical thinking and debate is not taught, and it's actually looked down upon as questioning authority.

On many forums, it's hard to engage Thais about issues like this without them getting really quiet or really angry...neither of which works.

We (Thai) like to think that we are sensitive but in fact, we just don't know how to debate and critical thinking is all too Greek for us. I too struggle with that every now and then.

@P'Nicky - I've my closed friends who are real 'Red Shirt' and every time I post the clip or message that against PT, I always set the custom privacy on FB to 'hide this form' and select their name so it's always safe to do that and seem they know this setting as well. I've never saw them post anything to let me know their post. May be they set the group and post there.

It's not about the education as they graduated from the same uni. with me. It's about the moral and EQ.

@Rob - They've never listen. Everyone has bias and in the past I did it already and they sent email to me about the counterattack for everything we thought it's bad. Then I was unfriend with her for a year haha as I was join 'Watch Red Shirt' page on FB and I always shared the link on my page. My friends are blind because they only listen and watch their own channel. Don't forget the owner of AIS and Shinnawat is smart to use marketing and communication tools.

@Rob - They are well-educated people but without conscious. In the past, it's like the never end message war between her and I.

Thaksin uses his money to buy many smart people and mass media. I see it from my eyes in my neighbor area. All except my house supports PT and they have Red Shirt channel and they watch the story that distorts the truth unbelievably. The more they listen, the more they believe.

No matter my family and I argue with some of them with the fact, they've never listen and argue us back with the infomation they got from smart people created and showed them.

I was once a member of a Facebook page that was pro-Red.

But they banned me (twice) because I didn't agree with them.

I remember one time, they were all cheering Jatuporn as a man who takes care of the poor people. I posted a link to his past life... He once sent armed policemen to remove farmers who were demonstrating on private land. They were beaten and kicked off the land. They hated that - I got banned five minutes after posting it.

I also write on Robert Amsterdam's webpage, refuting some of the rubbish he writes - especially his so-called expert JW Witty (who wrote his entire report based on Red Shirt testimony). For a long time, the moderators blocked all of my comments. Then I told them that I also posted the blocked comments on a website about hypocrites (eg people who complain about lack of freedom of speech and then censor all anti-red comments). A few days later they started accepting views from other people...

But a whole bunch of his fans are screaming for me to be banned ----- I love it!

Funnily enough, we also banned anyone red in the group. But the main reason wasn't because they are red but because they started name calling. It's very difficult to talk with them if you don't share the same belief. They are obviously support Thaksin and they even mentioned they could die for him. Well, Thailand has changed ...

Don't think much about it, Nickie! I "unfriended" some people connected to one of my sisters in law and I rejected "friends requests" of another couple of people just because I don't know them. After I registered, a bunch of people wanted to be my friends and as i was not knowing what's going on, I accepted. Later, as I found out what the whole thing is about, I unfriended them without any regret, even if they were some - distant - relatives. And by now, I am looking closely who wants to be my "friend" and those I don't know personally, I don't accept.

On facebook and here, I'm open up what I think about politics. It's sensitive issue but I think people should respect the way I am, atleast it does make-sense. I know some of my friends in the list are red. Some of them are very red. When I have something to say agianst the red I just do it without regret. If they can't handle it, just unfriend me, I don't mind. It's good that they can read my wall, they should know about other opinion. I'm open up if they have different thought.

It's weird to think that most Red Shirts are very narrow minded when it comes to discussing political topics. It is almost like someone who knows that they are in the wrong and will only get angry because they do not have a sensible answer to the challenge.

I have a very strong opinion in politics, and I normally tell people out front. If they do not like it, they have to accept it because facebook wall is MY personal space. If they do not like it, or cannot express themselves sensibly, they should consider leaving or accept that I will unfriend them.

I will not compromise myself for no good cause, esp those brainwashed Red Shits.

Well said, they can't argue on many topics or against any facts. So they try to intimidate people with numbers and threatening to "find" you. It's a gang mentality, they can't challenge intellectually so they threaten violence.

Last night was sweet!

I went to Qbar and met a chick. We started chatting and she said she came from Udon. So I asked her if she was a Red Shirt. "Yes. I love Thaksin."

So I asked why, but she didn't have any answer. She said he stole 'a LOT more' than the 46 billion baht, but it was ok because he 'helped some people'.

She got pretty angry because I mentioned the lies, killing, arson, and tax avoidance.

She said 'Eggs cost 9 baht now!' I said, 'No. They cost 4 baht.' (it's good to have a restaurant some times!) 'But what is your point? Do you think Abhisit has a chicken farm and is cheating people?'

I said, 'Food costs have increased all over the world.'

She said, 'I live in THAILAND!'

I said (slapping my big forehead!), 'Thailand is IN the WORLD!'

Later on I left and went home. She called me and asked if she could come to my room. I answered, 'No thanks.'

She asked, 'Is it because I'm a Red Shirt?' And I answered, 'Yes. Partly.'

Her - 'Oh... I hate you now.'

Me - 'OK. I don't care.'

Imagine! Not getting laid because of your political beliefs! What has Thailand come to?

some says...love is blind ....

in your case EB, it wasn't love, why don't you just pretend you're colour blind??

My ex-bf defriend me the day I post a youtube clip about burning Bangkok on FB... he said, sorry but we didn't share the same beliefs. I told him that we didn't share anything at all but just some short time dating while we were in the university. I'm so glad that we broke up long time ago.

He and I were in the same FB group (a closed group for CMU students/ex-students). He mentioned about that expensive food, high cost of living in the group and he blamed it on the democrat party. So I asked if he ever hard anything about "world economy crisis"? .. He said something like..I'm THAI and live in Thailand...unlike you, farang's lover. ... *sigh*

You might want to point out that it was Thais burning the city... not farangs.

I heard someone on the stage say Abhisit caused the global recession and Thailand was suffering because of it. And all the Red Shirts booed...

And I was thinking, "Why isn't someone saying, 'Errm that's not true. We don't like Democrats, but don't lie to us."?' But they all just sat there clapping, booing and waving their plastic, red feet without a thought in their brains.

It was very depressing. And it made me scared for the future of Thailand.

Now I wonder just how will Peua Thai will make the Red Shirts happy. Can they possibly perform to the ridiculously high standards they promised? Or will they simply fool them with marketing and lies?

They already started that with the 300 baht minimum wage campaign. The people who'll definitely don't get the 300 baht are in Isaan and the North because their current wage is lower than the Central part and the South. They are basically screwing their majority more than those who don't vote for them.

Cool story btw.
