I have been wanting to type up a post on politics for a few weeks now. Yet, I cannot seem to find the time and the focus on what I want to write. A lot of things were bugging me and they were all tangled up together that I didn't know where to start.

The past few days have been really disheartening watching and hearing the news on TV and radio. I was discussing a bit of politics with my aunt last night, and I felt like crying for the future of the country. I don't think Thaksin is majorly to blame on what's going on right now, and how brainwashed people have become during the past 5-6 years. It is just the core value of Thai people that is to blame.

A lot of people think we are good nature people, and have strong believe in buddism. But I think our true color is of greed, jealousy and laziness. They are sins that we all possess, but I think for the Thais these sins are in our nature more than others but we deny to admit them and sugar coated them with nice-sounding excuses.

Examples are those who become prostitutes because their parents want them to, those who trade sex for new expensive bags and new clothes, those who sit around waiting for help from their superior be it politicians, village leaders or even relatives who have more than they do, those who don't want to go to school or work hard but finding rich partners to support them, those who sit on the street waiting for the handouts from the passer by, etc.

We often sugar coat that fact by saying that they do it because they don't have a choice, they were poor and lack opportunities. We feel sorry for them, instead of teaching them good value that they have to try and stand on their own feet. The result is what we see now, everyone says that they want the government to take action and help them, eradicate poverty, drugs, prostitutions, etc. They don't even try teaching the good values to their kids to work hard and right whatever wrong in their situation.

Now we have Thaksin coming in with handout campaigns. Who is going to say no to free goodies and money? If someone doesn't wanna take it, they'd be labeled as stupid for not taking advantage of the free handouts as well. They don't see the consequences of taking someone's charity now, and be a beggar of tomorrow. In the end, what are we leading our society into? What are the values we are teaching our next generation?

I remember writing a post that red shits are beggars and I was attacked big time. My thought hasn't changed from that point, but let me rephrase that by saying the red shits have beggars mentality. I think most people who are bought by Thaksin's ideas have beggars mentality largely in them. They want things to get better but they aren't willing to work hard to make that change themselves. They want other people to do it for them, regardless of the consequences that may follow.

The problem is rooted deeper than getting rid of one person, one idea. It is changing the core values of the people in this country. The King has been trying hard to set an example for the people to follow, but I don't think a lot of people see it. I don't want to be nagative on where and how this country is going to end up. But I don't know how much hope I have left.

If you have read this far, I know I haven't been really organized in this post, but thank you for finishing my rant. Have a great afternoon.

Excellent blog.

Well-written and heartfelt.

I believe that most of Thailand's problems can be solved by better education. But that also means changing the lazy attitude of many students. Too many kids just want to pass the exam - even if it means cheating.

The ones who actually study and learn are the ones like you.

The problem is these "goodies" aren't free .... somebody, somewhere has got to pay for them !!!

It would be ideal if those taking the goodies know that the goodies are paid for by the tax payers and not Thaksin. But it's just too ideal.

Not the girl you met the other night at Qbar?

Too bad that education takes time and effort, but Thai people like to see things and get things in an instant. That's why the Democrats cannot win the heart of the majority, and why the King's sufficient economy is not widely practiced.

Thanks for your comment and your compliment.

Nong S, just look in the right side.

I admit that I was so depressed, when the election result came out this way. What i can do was just called my friend share our thoughts about this. One thing I said to my friend that those who support PTP are just the bigger amount of the Thailand population which are not people who run the country while the Party itself is so weak and unsecure, non of party's member is political professional ( no need to compare with the DEMs )

My routine life doesnt change so far and I think the new government cant change it though-lol, I got through 6 years of Thaksin (black) era, why wouldnt I get through Yinglucks. During time passed by, some thai people get smarter, you know? What Thaksin used to be done before might not be able to do again.

If anyone happy to be kicked broke their own legs and appreciated people who hand them PVC legs, let them be.

The problem is, that they CAN mess up your daily life... Portugal, Greece? Countries that were mismanaged and economies ruined because no-one was prepared to face the truth that tough decisions were necessary.

In order to keep their noses in the trough, the politicians avoided losing votes by spending money they couldn't afford (and no doubt stealing).

also Ireland .... now Italy .... and possibly Spain !!! it's gonna get messy ... very messy !!

and IF PTP increase the minimum daily rate to 300 baht per day ... that could have massive repercussions, regarding inflation, unemployment, lack of foreign investment etc !!!!

The policies that PTP spat out not always be implemented. Things wont be easy like before. Trust me. The representatives of DEMs in this government are in every regoins of TH including Isarn while PTP got zero rep in South, and non in East.

Once from the radio station, Dr.Jermsak Pinthong gave an opinion about ppl who live by the sea and ppl who live far from the sea had different thought.

His thought was interesting, but it was funny in the same time. He said people live by the sea has ego and dignity, they believe in themselves, no need to be on par with someone. They think they can take care of themselves. Plus they have connection with other countries. If you see the election map the south and the east of Thailand are blue. Included BKK. and the north and the north-east of Thailand are red.

I have many friends who came from the south, they are just like that. Once a friend of mine who came from Songkla asked me when I took her to my mom's home town, she wonder why Isarn ppl didn't care about education. She said if I visit her home town I will see people there really interested in education, I could find ppl who work in farms or rice fields have BA. or MBA. Their daily live is discussing about politic in morning coffee committee. That's their culture.

While ppl in my mom's home town talk about BS stuff... when I get there my relatives always expect to get some money or something value, cuz i live in BKK. People who has money is good.

My aunt told me, they celebrate after PTP. got landslide votes. They're having day dream about big money... hrrrrrrrrrrrr. Speechless.
