What's Apple Got For Us?

If you're into Apple products, Apple's annual developer conference is like porn. Here's what Apple has in store (no pun intended) for us.

Next Generation MacBook Pro

This one is the one that probably interests me the most. Some are saying that this makes the MacBook Pro the most advanced laptop on the market, period. I'm not sure I agree with that 100% but it's pretty damn impressive.

The 15" 220 PPI Retina display should rock. It's not quite as good as the new iPad but the 2880 x1800 display is about four times better than the current MacBook Pro 15" resolution which IMHO is already way, way better than most Windows laptops.

Following in the footsteps of the MacBook Air, the MacBook Pro has also gone on a diet and lost a few inches in thickness. The MBP comes in at an amazing 0.71 inches.

The Next Gen MBP isn't cheap though (which may be what keeps my hands off of one for awhile). Base priced at $2199 you can easily configure it to cost out to $3000.

MacBook Air, MacBook, and 17" MacBook Pro

The MB Air and the regular old MB just got more powerful. The MB Air can now be configured with up to 512GB of solid state storage and 8GB of RAM which makes it a fairly serious alternative to the MBP. Apple has also shaved $100 off the base prices.

The 17" MBP is no more. To be honest, I have a 15" MBP and it's plenty big enough. It seems huge. I can only imagine how monstrous the 17" much feel like when you're lugging it around.

Mountain Lion Coming in July

OSX is getting its own Siri like voice control. Apple claims you should be able to do Twitter or Facebook status updates and other general input via voice.

Sharing if the new "in" thing so Mountain Lion will come with the ability to Tweet and send Facebook status updates from many common applications.

Safari will get an update and you'll be able to sync your data, including open browser tabs, between computers.

Notification Center will act a lot like Growl (if you've ever installed it) and give you notices whenever anything you're monitoring (i.e email, Facebook, Twitter, etc) is updated.

iOS 6 (coming this fall)

Apple's mobile operating system in iPads and iPhones is also getting a major update. Siri is getting a lot smarter and will be able to answer more complicated questions. You'll even be able to launch applications and tweet via Siri so no more excuses for texting while driving.

Facebook Integration. If you're a FB junkie, the new iOS 6 is for you. Facebook features will be built into most Apple apps. You'll be able to keep your FB calendar and contacts in sync and update both from your iPhone or iPad.

There are a lot of cool features for those who use the iPhone as a phone too :-) You can set up canned responses to send to people who call you. For instance, if JapAmerican calls me I can set my iPhone to respond, "NEVER CALL ME AGAIN!!!!" There's also a Do Not Disturb feature which will allow you to ignore some or all calls or messages. You can even set it up so that if someone calls you several times in a row (maybe an emergency) that they can get through your Do Not Disturb.

Passbook will allow you to keep airline tickets, movie stubs, etc all organized in one application so you can go paperless.

Google Maps are dead in iOS 6. Apple has their own service now with turn by turn directions, 3D maps, live traffic data, and Yelp restaurant and business reviews.

Not sure I'm going to be buying any new hardware just yet but iOS 6 and Mountain Lion are both must-buys. Well worth the $20 for Mountain Lion and whatever the price will be (if any) for iOS 6.

iOS 6 sounds awesome. No way I'm shelling out 3 grand for a new lappy though.

If you give me a canned response like that' date=' I'll call you fat.[/quote']

Maybe you want me to read you the website?

LOL.
