It looks like a traditional metal harp, of the kind in a musicbox, but much bigger, I would think You need sticks to hammer on this one...

The plate under seem to hold a resonance chamber ?

As it has only 7 tones, I would therefore call it a bass instrument...

But a possible name would include harp so for my guess "bass metal harp" or "bass bell harp"...

Both names are very surely wrong :) but I think descriptive...

It doesn't seem to appear in lists of traditional Malysian instruments so I am guessing it is something of a hybrid - with the decoration from the local area and the actual workings looking like an adaptation of the mechanism inside a music box. What size is it?

I post it here coz I think there are many tourists are using this site .. so they might know ..

I also see this instrument in Singapore .. but I was in the guest house .. so i guess some tourists may just dropped it there .

.... I am curious to know how to play it ... :)
