So I'm finally going to take some time off and return to Thailand in January or February next year. Nothing booked yet but want to know if there is any festivals or events I should plan my trip around. Planning to visit Chiang Mai and BKK and maybe Cambodia. Not interested in bars or beaches just relaxing places and good food. Any advice welcome thank you.

the places i would like to recommend are koa kret island in nonthaburi which is pretty close to bkk and Amphawa floating market or Samchuk market (ancient market) or take traditional thai massage at wat phoa - BKK

Koh Kret is always worth a visit (thumb up)

Asiateque the new night market in BKK (Pier S2) close to Thaksin bridge and Pier 0

And even You can not get all the way, it might be worth trying to hop on the river ferry (expressboat) all the way from Thaksin bridge to Nonthaburi (Pier N31 if my memory serves me right) that is still some way from Koh Kret though - but Nonthaburi has a large fresh market here, and "Bangkok Hilton", the Bang Kwang prison is right here, to get in You need to do some paperwork before though, but it is possible and quite interesting (and scary) though.

And I could recommend here in Bangkok, floating market Bang naam peung in Samut Sakorn if You look at google map You will know why Pha Pradaeng is called the lungs of Bangkok, great park too where You can go biking...

About festivals, there is a yearly flowerfestival in Chiang Mai - in the beginning of february every year, very popular, so great idea to find some kind of hotel in good time...

While up there, go to Inthanon, and if You have a chance try Ang Khang nature resort, and the kings project there, very beautiful indeed at that time of the year, and well of he beaten track of tourists...

For the "relaxing" a very relaxing, very very slow moving place could be Phu Chai Sai in Chiang Rai (not very far from Chiang Mai) but to be honest that would not be "on a budget" but alternative in north could be Chiang Khan, with some great views of Laos on the other side of the river Mekong.

I actually quite easily could fill Your blogspace, so better to stop now
