Pope-steak and Sand

Well, I got my great steak dinner yesterday. Thank you Blair and Karol Wojtyla, one of whom is better known as Pope John Paul II. You can read the gory details here.

Somebody asked for a Sand update. In fact, it was Da Freak, who as far as I know is still strongly attached (at the hip) to The Cat. (How is everything there? I haven't been around TF much at all, so I don't know the latest.)

Well, Sand is busy busy busy with her school. She has one semester left to get a technical diploma in "digital media design." Basically it's a course in web and new media design, techniques, tools. She's using a lot of very sophisticated and professional software, almost all of which is available for a few bucks in BKK ;) She will start looking for a job this week, for when she graduates. We've been living together for six months now, and it has been very good. We get along extremely well. Sure we annoy each other sometimes, but we don't hide it, we work it out, and it is never anything major. Despite the age difference, we are very similar in some important ways that allow us to live together relatively happily and relatively friction free. Of course we're quite different in many ways too, but that just adds spice. I'm very interested by her talents and creativity. She has respect for my academic pursuits (and that's all I ever ask when it comes to math - I can't expect many people to actively be interested). She gets along well with Holm. He really likes her, and she likes him.

We could use a little more money! Ph.D. student, teacher and private tutor in my case, design student in her case, we're not exactly wealthy. But so far things have been OK, and with a little luck she can get some decent work, with her technical and creative skills. Actually when I am back in full-time Ph.D. studies in the fall I'll have better income too, a combination of tutoring and teaching and departmental support.

Sand is a very wonderful lady. She's the best.
