This coming weekend.. Does anyone bother going to this anymore? I went briefly last year and it seemed a bit stagnant.

is it like a shopping fair with loadsa brandname shops?

well, it's a bit of an institution.. for many years. maybe 20 years? it was held on the British Embassy grounds. It's probably the biggest ex-pat gathering that happens once a year. It's a charity based event where all stalls, rides and bands participating will donate their profits to charity. Actually it's a good chance to get books, music cd's, clothes and other stuff cheap. In the last 5 years the venue has changed because the Embassy grounds had been outgrown by the event. It did 2 years at the Dusit park show grounds.. (was good there).. and then last year at Bec Taro Hall in Lumphini Park. There are drink stalls represented by O'Reilly's, Irish X-change etc selling beer, burgers and such. There are rides, clowns, games, and live music by many bands. Basically as the name suggests.. it's a 'fair'. And still called the Ploenchit Fair due to it's original location. I'm sure a quick Google search would turn out more info. I thought all expats new about this annual event.. Last year Andrew Biggs was something of an official host of the event I think..

Anyway, it's this coming Saturday.. probably about 100 baht entry (charity donation).. and free entertainment. My band have performed there yearly.. as again this year. I think it starts morning time and goes to late.. Not much more to tell..

Umm.. I'm nearly making it sound like a fun thing.. but last year it seriously was pretty bunk. I'm guessing because the new venue didn't seem to really spark it off.. but it will always be the same anyway, with hordes of international school kids and their families wandering around proudly.
