  1. Hi, let me know if you'd like to chat. :)

  2. Hi, long time no talk!

I guess you probably don't remember me, but we used to talk for a while and then lost contact. Hope you're good!

    Alex

  3. Hey all, just thought I'd drop by and make a journal entry.I'm still in Bangkok right now, and I'm having a hell of a time! Been to loads of cool places, many of them for the first time, despite having been here before, been eating loads of good food and having loads of fun. Tan is also an absolute star, and I've enjoyed every second of being in her company. My only regret is that I have to leave on Saturday... :(I envy the farangs who actually live here, and I hope I can find a way of doing so eventually.Anyway, that's all I have to say, but I can't wait to come back here later this year or early next year!Best regards,Alex

  5. Afook - I understand what you mean, and to be honest, I agree with you. I have no experience whatsoever, and as I said, although my education is alright, I didn't go to university, although I do plan to in the future. I have no idea if I would perform well, and again, I can't speak Indonesian. I wouldn't be teaching at a university level or anything, but more at a high school level. It's not something I want to do forever, but the offer is just so tempting, and I would take it seriously while doing it.
  6. This came as a real shock to me, but today, a guy who I know, who I'm beginning to become friends with, has guaranteed he can get me a job teaching English in Indonesia. He lived there for five years, teaching English at a university himself, and said if I really want it, he could get me something very easily. I told him I would have a think about it and let him know later. The thing is, he speaks fluent Indonesian, whereas I can only speak English. I know there are some guys on TF who have experience of teaching English in Asia, so I'm just wondering if there is any advice you could offer me if I do decide to accept the offer. I am a shy person, and I don't have a university education at the moment. How do I go about teaching my language, when I can't speak theirs? I'm not totally sure if I will go for it or not, but I can't deny the offer is tempting, if it really materialises. I'm not interested in this for the long term, but it would be an experience in a part of the world I want to be in.

  8. Thanks guys, I really appreciate your advice. I don't see the need for JackyB's sarcasm, as I feel this is a totally reasonable post, but whatever. Actually, I used to be on ThailandFriends ages ago, and I do remember some of the older ones, but same as now, I've never been a big poster on this site. There is actually an event on the day I arrive, which I might attend, if I am not too jetlagged! Thanks guys, for your help!
  9. JackyB - I don't know what I'm scared about. I suppose I'm just fearing it because it's an unfamiliar situation for me. I'm so used to following others rather than being in the situation of having to make my own decision. I've been to Bangkok before, but I don't know it all that well. I don't know the names of all the streets, which areas are more dangerous than others, etc. I'm probably making this into a bigger deal than I need to, I guess I'm just fearing the unknown.
  10. Hey everybody!Well, some may know, I will be going to Thailand in July, which I can't wait to do, although I'm actually really nervous about it as well. The thing is, I've been to Thailand before, but I have never travelled to another country alone, so this is a real first for me, which does kind of scare me. I will going to see someone, as you can gather from my profile, and even though it will be great spending time with her, I'm not really sure what I'll be doing while she's at work. Plus I'm a shy guy, so that doesn't really help me much in terms of going out alone in a foreign country, where I can't speak the language and I totally stand out.We have both already talked about this and she understands, but I was just wondering if any of you guys can relate to what I'm talking about here and perhaps have any advice or whatever. I went and bought a travel guide, which is a start, but I'm just a bit worried that I'm only going to want to go anywhere while she is with me, which is not how I want to spend my trip! It also doesn't help that I really don't know very many people over there! As I said, I've travelled plenty, but never alone, even once! I might be making too much of a big thing of it, but with only seven weeks to go, I wanted to post this and get some advice, or even perhaps if any of you might feel like meeting up for a few drinks or something while she's at work.Anyway, thanks for reading, guys, and hope to hear from you!Regards,Alex

  12. Well of course I'd be careful, I'm not completely stupid, but I really can't see why there should be a problem. As I clearly said before, it's not like loads of people were telling me things. And who said anything about lust? It has nothing to do with lust.
  13. Hehe, I can swear to you it's not a transexual! Lol.
