    Going Home

Going Home High above the tarmac that trembled beneath the weight of the icy wind, an orange crescent hung in the deep blue sky. The icy wind had pushed Private Sandoval deep into the bunker. Cradling the M-16 against his body, he raised his wrist for the tenth time to check the hour. Each time the youth of his face, and the pain in his eyes were reflected back to him. He groaned. For the tenth time, he looked towards the woods that seemed to go on forever: “Sixteen hours out here. Have they forgotten me? I want to go home. Screw the Army;Screw NATO; Screw Maria Elena. She can have that jer

  3. The Hammer I was watching my 500th episode of Seinfeld, and nurturing my fantasy of getting laid by Elaine when the phone rang; “Hello,” I grunted. “How about helping me move on Saturday?”That is his way. He never says “What’s up dog?" "Sawadee Khrab," or even "How are you?" He just tells you he wants to steal your precious time. “How about 10:00 a.m.?” I said. “Alright,” he said. At 9:55 AM Saturday, I tapped the doorbell of the Tenderloin studio apartment four times; no response; I banged softly, as not to awake any neighbor that might be hungover from the night before. Still no

  5. The first time I heard this song, I thought it was so pretty, and it's fairly easy to sing. To sing it kinda like Stevie, it's good if you are a woman, or a man with a tenor voice, or a man who's had a few too many to drink. You can hear the actual song and www.youtube.com Just search "Stevie Wonder Purple raindrops" On the other side is "Uptight" a high energy song about a boy who has no money, but he loves his girl. Purple Raindrops by Stevie Wonder (1963) Purple Raindrops’’’, spotted flowers, I daydream for hours. Since I’ve met you’’, I can't forget you’’’’, oh ‘ ‘ ‘ what

    Law of Attraction

Every night before falling asleep, for the past ten years, I've been imagining a hot, lucious babe lying next to me ready for action. So far that hasn't happened. Tell me: what am I doing wrong dammit!
  8. Yes, Peter: I hear you about that "strange female" thing. There have been times my brother set me up with a girl, and boy, oh boy, I had to wonder what the hell was he thinking by selecting such a specimen and expecting me to get it on with her? Yes, even pandas have their taste in women pandas, I guess, and the females have theirs too. I didn't know about the bamboo shoots. barry
  9. What’s with these people (always men) who climb into GuGu the panda’s enclosure and get their ass kicked? A while back, someone climbed into GuGu’s cage to get a hug, and GuGu being very heterosexusl, I guess, wasn’t having any of that stuff, so he worked the intruder over. Then a tourist got into the cage only to be attacked; then yesterday a man got into GuGu’s cage to retrieve a toy his kid had dropped (how did that happen?) in the cage. This reminds me of friends who hired a known irresponsible alcoholic to housesit for a week. When they returned home, the alkie had allowed the dogs to h

    Fun "Facts"

Hi PeterH61: I admit that when I first heard about the extra drinks I was skeptical. At the time I was in Florida visiting this army buddy who was drunk more often than sober. After an afternoon and night of good eating and hard drinking (something I didn't usually do), I woke up with a killer hangover. My buddy's aunt, who was a pretty good boozer herself back in the day, got out this huge lemon (the size of a grapefruit...the first one I had ever seen that big). She cut up the lemon and mixed part of it with some liquor and made me drink it. I swear to you that although I was reluctant to tr

    Fun "Facts"

Today is January 5th, the first day of the year when people are returning to work and preparing to "get serious". As for me, I think we take too much time off from the middle of December until about the middle of January. No wonder a lot of people are catching up with us. But those are just my thoughts. When I get my own island, one of these days, I'm going to see to it that the help doesn't slack off. Since I'm a nice guy, they'll get two days off a week, and none of this three and four day weekend stuff. No way, Jose! Fun Facts: 1. Some study reports that today, Jan 5th, is the number one da

    New Year Memories

Yeah Monkyman: It's such a tragedy, that fire. Sad to say but I used to wonder about those places in Bkk that let in hundreds of people while having only one or two exits. Same with many places I've been to in London. In London they were never large, but were very small and you had to go down a tight set of winding stairs to get inside.
  15. One great thing about living in San Francisco is that we get to celebrate something like 6 different New Years. There is the regular Western one that's going to happen here in California in about 45 minutes; there's the Persian New Year, the Chinese, the Vietnamese, the Thai, and probably a dozen more. Because January 1st is the one I grew up with back in the southern United States, I've got to say it's my favorite, though I'm not biased against the others. Here are a few significant moments from a few New Years I remember. They might not be in exact order. I celebrated two in Germany, at som
