http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22447018 Sir Alex Ferguson will step down as Manchester United manager at the end of the season after 26 years in charge. The Scot, 71, has won 38 trophies during his reign at Old Trafford and will now become a director and ambassador for the club. His haul includes 13 league titles, two Champions League crowns, five FA Cups and four League Cups. "The decision to retire is one that I have thought a great deal about. It is the right time," Ferguson said.

UEFA's new rules come into force from the 2011/12 season and could see clubs banned from European football if they fall short. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/jan/11/uefa-footballpolitics From the figures for the 2009/10 season, only 4 Premiership clubs would have met these new conditions; Blackburn, Arsenal, Stoke and West Brom. The Premiership is no longer the most profitable league (It is now the Bundesliga) because of the spiralling wages and ludicrous transfer fees (I mean; Andy Carroll - 35 million? Thought it was usually the scousers who did the robbing?) How can the top clubs turn this round?
